I have noticed after reading many threads on all of the next gen console forums that nobody has any faith in the PS3's ability to be sucessful. Myself, being a large Sony fan am worried.
Some Reasurment?

I can't envision any way that the PS3 will be able to keep the lead in the U.S in the next-gen wars due to it's too high a price for the casual gamer and the quality of games that will be on the Xbox 360 but I still think there is about a 80 - 90% chance that it will still be a succesful console and I am sure even Sony would take that percentage at this point.

I like all of them and will hopefully get all of them eventually. The ps3 will be market leader again by 2009 in my opinion(only). You see many people are saying when the price drops they will get one and although that won't take place for a long time the hardcore people will drive it's market and just when they are exusted a price drop will take place and everyone who said it was to expensive will get one.
HOPEFULLYBy the time the price drop takes place it will have a nice library of games and will have created lots of buzz. The online service will have a substantial community and bluray will have plenty of movies.People aren't stupid they know about ps2 and many know what's inside the ps3 that's driving the cost thanks to 360 fanboys.
@rabbity & twohitter I know what you mean, but In fairness the 360 is your favorite console. There is stuff that looks just as good as gears of war that will be coming to the ps3.

you make it sound like sony's on their last leg ready to crumble. the're not sega. anywho.....i haven't recently looked or seen stats on how many 360s have sold in the US or its overall popularity, but just like last time sony will prevail over microsoft. my reasoning will be addressed down the line. something i see more often is people saying "i'll buy it when the price drops" so its not like there is a lack of interest, people still seem to want the system, its expensive for the time being. also don?t rule out the fact that the ps2 still has exclusive titles being released (GOD OF WAR 2) so there are still going to be games to keep people at bay. i myself am very excited about the ps3 and havn't really seen too much to complain about. i am still waiting though, for the price of games

jeez...the 360 has released for NINE months now and people still have all the faith in microsoft and the 360. some must have a short memory because last time i checked xbox's biggest flaw was its lack of great games, and you mean to tell me that given how the past nine months have gone things are going to be any different?? humor me....if you want something comparable to gears of war at launch you are probably not going to get it. i am baffled though why anyone would need that kind of reassurance at launch coming from a company that has DOMINATED the gaming market the way they have!! they are not the company that has anything to prove. i do think there are going to be some very nice titles available at launch, but on the scale of gears of war?? probably not. i am confidant that given the same timeframe that gears of war releases with respect to the 360's launch, the ps3 will not only have games on par with gears of war, but will surpass that game in every way (gameplay, innovation, graphics...the whole nine). we'll see how much people miss rumble in a year or so. the ps3 offers soooo much more than the 360, so give it some time.
i believe it is expected to release in 2007 and will probably be one of the first console sellers, naturally im referring to MGS4. the game looks FANTASTIC and puts any title on the 360 to shame, prove me wrong and show me a game that is on par or another developer with a proven track record who takes the time to make trailers that are comparible. this is the part i was referring to earlier, the GAMES enough said
consider this, it ought to tell you something when all these fanboys come and bash a system that is not out. one would think they would be playing their prized joy. so my conclusion is the 360 to date has not lived up to anything and people are a bit bored so they come and trash the forums. misery needs company hahaha

kind of unrelated, but I was talking to a friend and he said that he was going to wait until all of the bugs in the earlier versions of the PS3 were fixed. Does anybody expect there to be any bugs?

There is in any system but they usually aren't big enough to have a major effect. The ps3 is in a better position than the 360 was at launch most of those bugs will be patched free of charge via sonys online service.
@hade just how many 360's were sold in japan this week anyways? hehehe......

i still have my original ps2 i bought at launch from Kmart, and it works fine. there are occasions where i get a "disc error" message and have to reboot, but other than that it works fine. i heard people having difficulties with the early version of the ps2 in being unable to play certain games, but again i haven't come across anything like that. my game collection is also not very large either.....
as far as the ps3 is concerned, i'd say just like any system there are going to be bugs and possibly even duds. i may invest in an extended warrenty, but not really sure at this point. if what m$ was stating back during their release which was the 3-5% failure rate which is apparantely the norm for electronics, then odds are in our favor.

i had thought i read thats what m$ was claiming or an independent firm. the way the public reacted it did seem a bit higher, and i know there were quite a few right here on AD that had problems. some even had not one, not two, but i think even three incidents....

3-5% sounds about right. There are no legit sources that don't stem from microsoft to the best of my knowledge LOL.What people don't take into consideration is that most of the defective equipement isn't reported not by individuals' nor by the companies selling the consoles.
How can one arrive at a true number.3-5 is just the dead ones not the ones that had other problems and were sent back to be refurbished etc.
@skater you should know lol.I have seen so many people pissed about there 360 breaking down or overheating.Hey maybe your right though it could be higher indeed.
