Have a DVD of the film ROADGAMES (with Jamie Lee Curtis) that I wanted to back up along with a commentary by its director (Richard Franklin) and a doco ('Kangaroo Hitchcock').

Couldn't see how to copy the commentary, so I settled (as I thought) for just copying the Menu plus the feature and the doco. In fact, the Menu on the backup disc gives access to the Extras, ALL of which seem to work, including the commentary, though I thought I'd replaced several of the items (e.g., a Stars' Portrait Gallery) with a still image in each case.

Basically, how DOES one recognise and select a commentary prior to backing up?

Thanks - Ken41

Why don't you just back up the whole disc? You can use Shrink if you have it, to preview anything on the disc and add it or replace with picture or even reauthor it once you have it ripped or preparing to rip(if a decrypter is used with newer discs).

Use Shrink. When you select main movie, 2 or more audio tracks will appear. The commentary is usually the smallest one. Just check/uncheck the audios you want to keep before backing up.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Thanks guys. 'Garmoon', I do have 'DVD Shrink' - that's the very reason I posted here on a 'DVD Shrink' forum. As for backing up the whole disc, that's just what I didn't want to do. On this same forum in the past, people have repeatedly stressed the importance of NOT backing up unwanted tracks, in order to get the best possible compression ratio.

Cheers - Ken41

@Ken41

As I said in my post use Shrink, in the normal backup mode, and preview the stuff you want to get rid of; then reauthor the disc and remove the stuff you previewed and didn't like. It just sounded like you wanted to keep a lot of stuff. You're correct in taking the stuff out that you don't desire, for me I only back up the movie.
