MI Firmware upgrade trouble

Hi, I've got a slimline playstation with a 1.54v MI modchip installed I've tried to upgrade the firmware to both 1.68 and 1.88 but each time after the software has loaded up and I press start I get a programming failed error telling me to press any key. Anyone had this problem before or know how to fix it?

Sounds like you might have a fake MI, but I'm not too sure either.

maybe your not burning the MI update files correctly. Does your PS2 still work though? Because if it doesn't you may have a fake MI!

well I just burned the bin and cue files with Nero at 1x speed, yeah my ps2 still works so its nothing major I just wanted to upgrade it.
