Would anyone be able to tell me if these are any good and if they are suitable for use with an NEC 3530A burner http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/PROD/3-/904939/-/Enla...

If you can try and find out where those discs are made. Best if made in Japan.

If you're in the States, Best Buy has 100-packs of 8X Sony for $26. Go through the stacks and find the ones with octagonal, not round, cotton stoppers on top. Those will be MIJ and should also say so on the label. They'll be Taiyo Yuden made in all likelihood.

The only discs made in Taiwan, that's worth using is Verbatim.

sony are good if 8X and MIJ or 16x MIJ with white octagonal spacer, the 8x MIJ are always good no matter what spacer.

In my experience, I'd say those MIT Sony's are Grade B (or B-) Media. I mean, TY and Verbatim rule, but if you can't get them, Sony coded media burns rather well compared to what's out there. Keep in mind that you shouldn't exceed 8X although some people have reported that 4X works better for them.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Given a choice, go for the MIJ Sonys, and you will probably get TYs everytime. The MIT sonys are not as good as the TYs, and why buy the lesser quality stuff when you can get the best for the same price? Usually you can find at least one MIJ spindle.
Tys rule!!!
Taiyo Yuden.. All chant now.. :)

Not one MIJ Sony spindle at my local best buy. And i looked thru all the spindles. I bought one MIT spindle and it codes out Sony D-21 which is OK media, but i was hoping to get some TYs.

That's how I rank them:

1-TY (Sony 8X MIJ)
2-Verbatims
3-SONY
4-Ritek

This ranking is of course based on Nero Scans. The only reason I rank SONY Coded media over Ritek is consistency. Although Ritek has given me higher scores than SONY, it's not consistent. Some burns are better than SONY, but others are worse. So taking into consideration consistency alone, I rank SONY Higher.

@neptune
Its been a while since i have done a scan, but since im on vacation, and every so often, its a good idea to test the latest batches, and see how the current media is doing. For me if i get anything in the 90s its good. Lower, and i start looking at firmware/media/burn speeds to see if i have a problem with a drive or media, etc..

I did a burn of both the Yuden and the Sony D21 on the same movie, same burner, same everything except media. I did only one test, willing to let the Sony D21 win if it could. I burnt both at 6x.
Here is the Sony D21 media:

and here is the same thing burnt with Taiyo Yuden Sony labeled MIJ media:

Sometimes a speck of dust gets on a disc and causes a spike like on the D21 scan, but there wasnt any dust on the disc, and on each one i went straight from the burn to the scan. (i live in a desert, so dust gets everywhere, but this time all were clean) Most times the D21 will score higher but thats how it was right here on planet earth.
Different ppl will have different setups, and will have different results. Uuhh, in other words, whatever works best for you. Every time i have tested Tys against anything, it beat the other stuff. Verbatims are good, and many ppl have luck with some formulas of Riteks, etc. My whole point is, if you can get Tys for the same price as Sony D-21 MIT, get the Tys and you will not be un-happy. In my case, i had no choice, as there were no MIJ spindles. Yes, i got down on my knees and looked at that lower shelf, every spindle...no luck Still at around .25 cents a disc, the Sony D-21s are fine for me too. I was just hoping to hit the media jackpot. :) Better luck next time.

I suppose the reason I get such great results is primarily because of my BenQ Burner. Hey I've even gotten better scans from CMC's than MaxBurns' SONYD21's. LONG LIVE SOLID BURN!!!!

I haven't burnt a better media than those YUDENT02. It's a shame they are slowly becoming the Dodo of DVD media.

Should there be any concern with the quality on a blank DVD when you buy one today and don't use it after many years (like 5 or 10 years) ?

I'm afraid of the fact that the current DVD burner won't burn the future high speed DVD (like 32x or 64x) !

Thanks
