http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/5342/53/ so they really havnt started making the ps3?
i wonder what the faltality rate of comsumers running for a ps3 will be. either trampled on the way or blasted over after they pick it up and ppl see em with it.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

I already explained this.It hasn't changed at all the quota was 2 million world wide and that's what sony was aiming for.the key word in that article you posted is 700,000 in each market. That means 700,000 for each of those markets which is actually over 2 million.
Here http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/19/ps3-begins-production-in-taiwan/
Don't get me wrong they will be in short supply but it still appears the ps3 will smoke the 360's launch output.

It was just a support link to say that sony's quota was 2 million which it was.Do some math anubis your link say 700,000 per market, what's 700,000 times 3.
Thought so.Get a better link next time you try that crap.

the problem with these links and i guess the writers behind all this, is they lack the simple fact or question I, myself am wondering. WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?????????????
even though he came out and said they are not in production yet, is it really that big of a deal? were they already planning to be in production by this point, if no are they still on schedule...if yes, how might this affect their launch supply?? is it really possible to produce 1 million/month like they say they can? there is just under 3 months time till launch, so wtf does that mean? there are several variables to all this that no one really seemed to answer. does anyone know at what point sony started producing the ps2 prior to launch? what were their producing cababilities back then, and what might that mean now? one would only think sony would have seen what happend with the supply shortages that plagued the 360, so again i am not sure exactly how to interpret all this.
sorry, but its annoying when people just look at the surface of things and come up with dumb takes on the situation. NOTE!! none of this is directed at anyone here, but if it were me writing this story i would have done a little more research on the subject trying to understand what that statement really means.....also, for all anyone knows production may start tomorrow, the next day or next month, but again what does it really mean?(besides the obvious)
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6154390.html this is back from july 20th, kind of goes along with tycobb's link. it was posted by gamespot, who ironically also had this interview with kaz hirai where he stated the ps3 was not in production.

After giving this some thought - a delay in the US launch may actually be better and may make more sense. Sony should launch first in Japan - like they did the PS2 - followed by the US in the spring and Europe in the summer. Here's why:
1. Let the Japanese deal with the initial bugs and problems. This will give time for Sony to iron out the kinks and come out with an improved and more polished product for the US and European markets next year.
2. By spring next year the novelty and hype surrounding the Wii will have died down and there would be less competition and less complaints about the price difference b/w the two.
3. Production will be more streamlined and should make for less shortages and more units available for the US launch.
Just my 2 cents...

dude, i've been waiting long enough. im not gunna wait till another spring. i've sure by the time there are anought ps3 being made, revisions and fixes will be made. that means anyone getting one after about 3-6 months will have a better version. im gunna get one launch date with no credit card, full cash. then if it has bugs, i'll wipe it of everything, buy a newer version, and return my old. i figure if im paying this much it better be the best system on the shelves that i buy.

i expected this, but you have to remember that sony has a lot more factoires in which it can make the console compared to MS (thats what ign said anyway).

Quote: Sony clarifies launch numbers
by Zhao Jingyu
Following an interview with Sony America's Kaz Hirai, rumors and speculation began to flare on the number of PlayStation 3 units that Sony will launch with and how the Japanese giant will allocate those units. A Sony spokesperson has set the record straight with the following statement:
"Unfortunately Kaz Hirai's comments in the recent GameSpot interview regarding PlayStation 3 production were misunderstood. We are still on schedule to ship 2 million units for our mid-November 2006 launch and additional 2 million units by the end of the year for a total of 4 million units."
Although the statement confirms Sony's earlier announcements on the PlayStation 3's launch numbers, Sony has yet to comment on the PlayStation 3's production status. With a worldwide launch set for this November, the two-time console war winner has little time to waste.

New PS3 numbers from IGN and CNBC Financial News:
3 million units by the end of the fiscal year - which ends March 31:
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/727/727810p1.html
Quote: According to the report from the company, Sony would not be able to meet its estimates for the fiscal year. Instead, Sony is projected by the group to produce about half, or 3 million units, of the next generation system.
I don't know how reliable these numbers are but these are projections made by Mitsubishi UJF for shareholders and investors and are meticulously researched.

thats not even sony themselves, what do they know? i'd trust a sony exec before someone completely uninvolved. i doubt the numbers will be that low if there are low product numbers

Like I said, these projections are for those who buy and sell stock - shareholders and investors. These numbers help them decide on what to do with their holdings in the short and long term. The news did generate some activity as Sony's stock fell 3% on the Nikkei.

ya this kinda blows, but i don't think it can get worse then xbox 360's deal. this is kinda nice for those who want to make quick cash by camping ps3 and turning around and selling it. that's what im going to do. buy one day of, wait few days to see if they stock is cut majorily and demand is high, then sell. if stock is fine then ill keep it for myself. either way you win something, its a free shot at making profit, no loss, so why the hell not :) [i don't know if i can hold the pressure of not opening a ps3 box if its sitting right on my bed though].

yeah, really. if it were right there you love more than anything to give it a try. but if you dont you can sell it as "unopened, new" and it will go for more.
