WMP freezing after MC mpeg encoder

my media player 10 wouldn't play mpegs from the net very well, even after getting a third party codec...well i broke down and got the Main Concept MPEG encoder v1.5.1 that microsoft recommends, it will play them now but here's what happens

I click the link

WMP starts and says its' playing but i only hear the sound.

i go back to the webpage and click the link again and it plays perfect...

any ideas? you guys seem to be the video guru's so i thought' i'd ask here first
