The burner is a NEC 3550A flashed to the official 1.06 firmware. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on an old AMD XP 1800 rig.

I'm using:
DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
Nero 6.6.0.14

I have AnyDVD installed and am using DVD Decrypter to rip an already ripped DVD. DVD Decrypter rips the entire DVD in about 15 minutes.

I open up DVD Shrink, point it to the directory where DVD Shrink ripped the files to and I get the following error:
Quote:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Failed to open file: "C:\Video\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.VOB"

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
I googled that error and that whole "burn with NERO" button is unticked, but this shouldn't be about copy protection because I ripped the files with DVD Decrypt and I am ripping a backup DVD which has no copyright protection anyway.

I am completely confused right now. If anyone can shed some light on this situation, I would be entirely grateful. Thanks!

Oh and the files that are ripped through DVD Decrypt play fine on Cyberlink PowerDVD. So they are definantely valid DVD files.

I think the problem is with DVD Shrink.

verity, not sure what that error means... but while you're waiting for that answer maybe rip the original backup disk with dvdfabdecrypter and see if you get the same error with shrink. if you have a decrypted backup disk, i'd think that you could just use "copy disk" with Nero. i could be wrong about that, but seems like it ought to work if there is really no encryption. another possibility is to use imgburn to create an iso from the current dvd VOB files and burn it with imgburn.

good luck and let us know what happens or what solution you come up with.

If u have the ripped files on ur HDD and they are from a burnered disk, why r u using DVD Shrink?
RE-author?
Burned copy is a DVD9 disk? u are trying to copy.

If not all u have to do ia burn the ripped files, now if u ripped them as an ISO image then u can burn them with DDdecypter in MODE/ISO/Write, if u ripped them as files(Video_TS folder) u can burn with Nero or ImgBurn(Free) now able to burn Folders,

300bowler, my intentions are not to reauthor or to compress the already burned DVD any farther. I was attempting to highlight the point that even though the DVD was a burned copy and I had already successfully ripped the DVD to the drive using DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink refused to play nice.

The problem came up again, so I rebooted and no more error, but now the rate is horrible. It's not compressing the movie at all, I just want to illustrate to my uncle how to rip DVDs, and it's going at 1370KB/s which is painfully slow for this system.

I'm currently running Memtest 86 3.2 to see if there are any problems with the RAM. If not, I'm convinced the problem is with the IDE cable.
