Can a Subtitle file be added to the .avi file?

I have finished my first foreign film with subtitles (Italian) and subtitles are in English It works wonderful with the whole Xvid file just great I used Subrip and VirtualDud for the Xvid. My problem is splitting my Xvid into three parts (In order to save to cdr) with subtitles added Can the .srt .srm files be added to the Xvid File if so please explain how the guides are using older program the options are changed.
I split the movie already but kept the full file in case I need to add these subtitles to it well I searched forums and have not found out how to add these to split files Help would be much appreciated. I?d like to add them to the actual .avi file if at all possible. The sub file plays perfect with the first split file when added to the player however the 2nd and 3rd files are out of sync and do not work properly. HELP ME PLEASE

Movie File is Xvid
Subtitle file is .srt Main file and VTS_01_1 .srm, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 all from vob files.
