I am after a media player for my PS2 which will play different files ie avi's, DivX, XviD and other. Is there a program that can do this?
Found one called SMS media player, anyone had any dealing with it? I have a slim PS2 with a modchip (think its a DM4 if that sounds right) the web site is here
http://sms.ps2-scene.org/eng/index.htm
Cheers Rob

SMS is a great media player ive used it loads and havent had any problems with it, I would definitly reccomend it to anyone.
If you have a DMS4 then it would be really easy to use as well, if its a PRO one not lite then you can use it to store SMS on your Memory Card and boot it using dev1.

Hi mate,
Thanks but you lost me somewhere along that post, do I just download the file burn it to a cd and then put it in the PS2 which will install it?
I am waiting to find out the make and model of chip (e-mailed the guy who put it in. All I really want to do is be able to put about 6 AVI files on a dvd and be able to play them on the PS2 thus saving me the problem of converting and burning every single AVI as a dvd.
'if its a PRO one not lite then you can use it to store SMS on your Memory Card and boot it using dev1' not sure exactly what all that means, sry. I only have an 8mb card

yea doesnt matter, i had a huge reply ready but accedentally closed the page and couldnt find it again, but yea...
You need to find a guide that makes a bootable cd out of ELF files to load SMS with, then on that CD include your AVI files.

Thanks,
Have read through the sms page and it seams to be a little over my head (and I thought I was pretty good with computers) :(
It says I have to copy files onto my memory card using something called ELF files?
Is there an easier way? all I want to do is burn a couple of 700mb AVI or DivX files onto a DVD-R and watch them on my PS2, it isnt going to have a HDD or be networked up to my computer (unless I have too to copy any programs onto the PS2).
I've searched for a guide but cant find any on here.

dunno for sure but try burning a DVD with a SYSTEM.CNF and the SMS files. An ELF file is just a ps2 executable (.exe).
Create a notepad file with the contents of:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SMSELF.ELF;1
VER = 1.01
VMODE = PAL
Change the boot file to whatever and save it as SYSTEM.CNF.
The only thing im not sure of is the formay to burn the cd in.
EDIT: Also change PAL to NTSC if its your region.

Does the elf file and the 'SMSELF.ELF;1' have to have the same name?

yea that file will pooint to the file that should be loaded first, so that name there has to be the same as the ELF name.

Well done that but it doesnt allow me to boot the cd, burned it as a standard data cd through Nero but the PS2 doesnt recognise it.
Dont even know if my chip allows you to use elf files.
God is this really hard or am I being fick?

Sry but can you go through this as if I' stoopid cos I think i'm missing something. Patching a media player even one made by Sony cant be that hard.

Hi mate,
It seems no one on here has any idea, SMS needs putting onto the memory card to run but even on the web site there is no mention of putting onto a disc.

sorry for not replying everytime i find this page i somehow quit it accidentally.
Im not sure if it can be done with a DVD, but you could try using Independence Compiler program to make a Exploit CD, but there is a tickable box so you can make it so that its not an installer just a CD, that boots. Then add your AVI files to the disc image and burn it.
I do know there is a proper way to do this but cant find out how. Might wont to try the Official SMS Forum .

This is the walkthrough http://sms.ps2-scene.org/eng/cdimage.htm
I hope the following makes sense, but if like me the uLaunchelf thingy didn't work properly (it did open but gave error message at top) I was able to make another directory named 'BOOT'on the memory card and could put SMS.ELF into this directory but couln't rename it.
So I saved the SMS.ELF file onto my computer renamed it to 'BOOT.ELF' burnt it to a cd as a data disc and then after booting up LaunchELF I swapped the discs over and copied the new BOOT.ELF (SMS.ELF) into the new directory in the memory card.
This works a treat and SMS can now be started using R1 at boot up, you can then copy a whole dvd worth of AVI files and when SMS is started you just put the DVD in and it reads and plays like a dream.
If anyone has a chip and needs to have the extra walkthrough (to go on the end of the one Michiel gave me) I will try my best to write it up so it makes abit more sense.

If anyone needs it I can E-mail you the image files you need but you'll need Nero to burn them onto a cd.
I can the also send the renamed SMS.ELF file to add to the memory card.
Or for a small commission, you send me a PS2 memory card and I'll put it on and send it back :)
