Can anyone tell me where to find all the original movie formats (especially screen ratios)? Thanks

So, you're saying that all movies are originally shot in an 18:9 format because theater screens have a 18:9 ratio? I originally thought that movies are shot in either a 16:9 or 4:3 format. However, you couldn't fit a 16:9 or 4:3 formatted movie on a theater screen, right? Also, a true widescreen theater version of a movie would still show small black bars on a new widescreen television?

This is all as far as im aware. I do believe that cinema format is 18:9 (bear in mind there used to be a format of 14:9, not sure if its still about) and a new tv will still show the black letter box type picture.
We have two new TV's:
Panasonic 32" PB(something or other)
Pioneer 42" Plasma
Both show letter box on DVD movies. if you find a solution, let me know!

I don't think all movies are shot in an 18:9 ration though. Why does it say on the back of DVD's "presented in letterbox widescreen to preserve the original format" of either 2.35:1 or 1.85:1? I don't know.
