I have a Steering Wheel for my PS2, and I was wondering if this might be usable on the PS3?
Were PS1 Steering Wheels (if there was any) compatable with the PS2?
The Steering Wheel is a USB device, which kinda makes me feel like it might work....but if it doesn't I don't know if I'll fork out the money for a whole new one.

I dont see why not. But the only reason I dont think so is becasue there is the tilt feature in the ps3 controllers and ps2 steering wheel wouldent have that.

I kinda know what you mean, but the steering wheel doesn't really need a tilt feature....I mean actually turning the wheel is a similar action to tilting the controller, but it's input to the Playstation equivalent to the direction on the Left Analog Stick.
There's really no feature that can be added for the PS3 Steering Wheels, so I'm thinking (and hoping) that the PS2 one will still be compatable.

Well the ps2 Steering Wheel should be compatible. But that is if the tilt feature is not mandatory. So that it is possible to take off the tilt feature. If you can't then they most likely will not be compatible then.

Hey, it's been a while since the last post in this thread, and so because the PS3 has now been released, I'm bumping this up in a hope someone can answer my question now?
Does anyone know if PS2 steering wheels can be used on the PS3?
Thanks

It should be, just get one of those PS2 -> PS3 controller adapters. I know I've used PS2 DualShock controllers on the PS3 and they work fine (aside from no motion sensing).

I have a ps2 Logitech Driving Force, which also connects via usb and it does work to some extent. It seems like it works but the game wasn't designed for it. I've played ridge racer 7, but i dont recommend a wheel for that but i did work okay, and I've played GT HD but i couldn't get it to have any resistance or force feedback even though there is even options for my exact wheel. I couldnt tell you how it works with NFS Carbon tho.
Edit: i have played GT4 for ps2 on my ps3 though and that worked fine, so it's definitely a software issue.

Thanks for the replies.
Edgewise, I have the same steering wheel as you, which connects via USB. I was wondering how the force feedback would work, with rumble taken out of the equation.....but I suppose there would be something special for the driving games. It's just not the same playing a game without Force Feedback.
I'm in Australia, so the PS3 hasn't come out yet, but I know of a store that imported a Japanese version, and apparently they have the F1 game hooked up with a steering wheel, so I'll try find out if it's a PS2 steering wheel and give it a go.
Does anyone know if there is a specifically made PS3 steering wheel out yet?

It doesn't look like there will be Force Feedback on the PS3, but I have seen postings on some forums stating that it does still work, not sure if those are true or not though.

No Force Feedback For PS3 Racing Wheels Either
This really shouldn't come as a surprise, but a gentle (kick in the nuts) reminder that there will absolutely be no force feedback, anwyhere, on the PlayStation 3. None. Zero. Forever. Using your expensive Logitech Gran Turismo racing wheel will feel like your guiding your Ferrari through a sea of buttered pillows, stacked on a cloud.
Sony confirmed that force feedback is forever dead on the PS3 to 1UP this afternoon:
All PS3 games are programmed for the SIXAXIS which doesn't have force feedback, therefore the force feedback in the wheels won't be recognized.
If only I could find some way to embed a deflated series of notes played on a trombone in this post to underscore that bad news, I would. But, like Immersion-patented force feedback on the PS3, we don't support that kind of technology. Sorry! Michael McWhertor

okay i played with it some more and figured out that there is no force feedback or rumble. What i felt before was a slight jerk in the wheel when i hit the wall in ridge racer. I played the F1 demo and it registered the wheel but i could only use it as a normal controller(i.e. i had to use X as the gas) I then put in Gran Turismo 4 and it turns out i was mistaken before, and there is no force feedback or rumble with that either. I'm kinda bummed now.

That sucks big time. Such a loss...
All these awesome features, but they couldn't even include that???? Gee I'm pissed off.
There's almost no point having a wheel anymore.....and I thought they would be promoting accessories.....oh well

i feel the same way man. i just hope that they release an update adding the rumble and such along with an actual ps3 wheel (wireless too). it would be even better if it was like the new logitch wheel and have a clutch and a H shifter. that thing is sweet
