Ok....so I have read the 44 pages pdf file that tells you how to put the firewire on the two drives....but I got some pretty general questions:
Which drive is easier to flash? Samsung or Hitachi? ......Can't I find serial numbers off of the site 360drives.com for xbox360 core packages so when I go buy...I will get a samsung drive for sure? And My last question.....Besides the xbox360 and a computer with a dual layer burner what else do I need inorder to flash my xbox360 and what not. I am sure my computer has SATA cables...
I really really want a xbox360 with firewire on it REAL REAL BAD!!!

first, do you mean FIRMWARE or firewire.
Second the Samsung is easy to flash, but too bad for me that i messed up doing the falsh cause my floppy was old and bad. So id suggest getting a good brand new floppy. i dont think the core and premium have serial numbers, hey ive been wrong before, but choose watever suites you. well you need the xtreme_package i dont know if i can tell you where it is cause i might get banned. search google and MTK flash get new version 183c i think. have fun flashing and i dont mean boobs

Don't make me laugh....I know where you can get all this crap already.... Do you have to have a floppy disk? Can't you use a cd? So samsung is better right? I heard some fool say that commodore just can out with some crap that makes hitichi drive easier to flash? is that true? And why hasn't anyone here about the serial number reading method...I think heard that hear. SMART people.... I need your help!!! I need smart people's help.

360drives.com is pretty accurate... but not guaranteed. Go by the team number and lot number. I would say the Samsung is easier but others may tell you it's a horse-apiece.
If your pc has the sata ports then your fine as long as you get the mtkflash edited to work with your chipset (unless your lucky and already have a compatible chipset).
#5 in Ronnie101's sticky at the top of the forum tell you how to edit the mtkflash.
Now if you don't mind spending the cash and don't want to mess around with sata, then just get a 360 with the Hitachi drive and then get the X360 USB. Divineo.com is taking preorders for it.
And for flashing Samsungs I just use my usb memory stick and have my pc to boot from that. ALOT easier than floppies or cds imo.

THANK YOU!....THANK YOU!....LORD bhetrick.....You are a smart guy....so I can still use a cd to put my backup firewire on it if I wanted to right? And how do you know if you already have a compatible chipset or not? If I have the money.....what's the easiest way to get a xbox360 that can play backups? Are there a reliable premod xbox360 consoles out yet that is worth the price?

Yep... you can use a cd to load the edited flash. Just set your pc to first boot from the drive. But I'm sure that in the guide you read it said that you first have to backup your orig.bin. For that you'll have to use a floppy or usb stick.
As for the chipset, I'm not sure which guide you read through but the one I used back when I did my first mod had the known compatible chipsets listed. Mine wasn't listed so I had the mtkflash edited to work with it (thank you ronnie). I first tried before using the edited mtkflash and I believe it told me "no drive detected". That's how I knew it obviously wasn't going to work and that I needed the mtk edited.
As for getting a premod, I couldn't point you in the right direction. Honestly, the 360 seems like a pain in the a$$ to mod, but when it comes down to it, it's really simple, quick, and CHEAP (free as long as you don't have to buy a pci sata card).

I dont want to mess you up or anything, but the Hitachi is a very easy flash now as well. So don't be afraid of it. With GaryOPA 7 in 1 flasher it works well. Reads the media well to unlike before.

This is true. Before it was thought that the Hitachi's were very picky when it came to reading DVD+R dl's... but it ended up just being a problem with the flash. Now that's been taken care of and they read just fine. It's just a different process for swapping the firmware.
That's why in my other post I said Quote: I would say the Samsung is easier but others may tell you it's a horse-apiece.
. With either drive you can extract the ss so you'll be able to backup your originals.
Hope all this is helping and not setting you back to square one - "which is easier to flash?"

It's (360drives.com) worked for me so far with 5 360s. I took a buddy yesterday to find a sam/360. Printed out the list. First store we stopped at had one which was listed. He got it home and sure enough it was a samsung.
Although, you know, both drives will play/extract just the same with the new firmwares. I guess I was just stuck on the thought (as was my friend) that it's important to get the samsung drive and didn't really think twice about it.
He's ready to flash it now. I told him to pick up some games and play the $hit out of them first. To really run the 360 for awhile and make sure no problems arise. He didn't get the extended warrentee but I suggested atleast running most of the 90 day out. Also told him to get the intercooer. For $20 it's a cheap investment.

For the hitachi you need a compatable sata chipset.
Then you need to get the drive into mode b which is easy with the two wire trick. Read up on that. Then once in mode b windows is able to recognize your 360's dvd drive. Then you run the flash and thats it.

BHetrick...
I'm new here, but it definitely seems like you are the most knowledgable and most willing to help. I need help desperately. My husband has a 360 in the bedroom and I have one in the living room. I would like to back up the copies of the games we already have, but I'm totally confused as to how to do it. I know I'm totally a noob. Feel free to spell it all out for me :) I know nothing about mods, or anything else. lol. I do have CloneDVD and AnyDVD if that helps. I also have a double or dual layer dvd disc drive on my laptop. I would appreciate any help. Thank you so much.
