Firs tof all hello to everyone, I have read this forum for a long time for help with a lot of things, but it has taken until now to register here.

Anyway, I have read all the info I could find on here and elsewhere on the net about flashing the Hitachi-LG drive, and have given it a shot, but obviously I have had a few problems.

First of all I can't get the drive to seen in windows, I have tried the Linux based boot disk method, but will have to try something else when I have the internet back on at home for information on the best method.

My main questions is I have the Xtreme 7 in 1 patch, and from the instructions with it, it suggests that all the flashing is done for you by the program, is this correct, or is the backing up of the firmware done by the program and you need to use dos for the rest?

If anyone could link to a guide for flashing the drive using the same patch I would be very greatful as I couldn't find one that was clear, or an answer to the question would be great also.

Any way thanks in advance guys.

Chris.

If it's Garyopa 7in1 vers. 1.3 or 2.1 it will do it all for you on a click. You just have to let it work until it says it's done. Those are the ones I'm familiar with and the read me had all the info I need. BTW you have to get you drive into mode b. Not sure if you have that cover.

Thanks a lot for your reply mate.

I have had some trouble with the modeb thing so far, but I read in one of the guides that leaving a non xbox DVD drive connected on SATA, waiting until windows has booted an given it a drive letter then swapping it with the xbox drive works. I was going to go with this theory myself, and also wonder if the same thing could be done but using a SATA hard drive to swap it with.

I tried the linux based boot disk but it never seems to recognise the drive, it's a bit difficult right now as I am having to do all this from work.

One final thing, I have just read a few forums where people say not to use auto flashers because they create bricks more often than not?

What is for samsungs only? The boot disk? But I thought Samsungs didn't need to be put in modeb, so what is the disk for? By the sounds of it I have got confused with the overload of information in the last few days.

I can't use the wire trick becuase I am doing this at work, using the bits I can source here so no capacitor to hand, and not using one sounds like a good way to brick the drive to me lol.

did you mean auto flash is only for the samsungs? The 7 in 1 patch I got says it auto flashes? Did I get the wrong one?

Don't worry about what he said about Samsungs. You are using a Hitachi and have the right flasher if it's GARYOPA's if it'e 1.3 or 2.1. That does every automatically, but it's not the same are previous bad auto-flashers.

The ms-dos boot disk is for the Samsung it doesnt need to be put in mode b just connect it at the a: and type the command. It sounds like you have the Hitachi if you are trying to use the slax cd. The only way you can get it in to mode b for now is use the slax disk or the wire trick i personally would never use the wire(brick)trick but if its your only option and you cant find another computer to try the slax cd on then youll have too.

PS
Also make sure you have this one OPA-XTREME-HITACHI-7IN1-V2_1 (the 2.0 caused brick drives) and yes it autoflashes with very little chance of bricking your drive.Just type flash21.bat <hitachidriveletter> and a unique 4 digit number where it will put your backup original firmware and key.
example: c:\flash21.bat h 1256

Thanks again guys.

The file I have is named Xtreme-Hitachi-7in1-v2_1

Is that correct?

So no one here has tried hot swapping the hitachi with another SATA device to get it flashed? Any risk of bricking it that way you think?

I really don't want to do the wire trick with no safety measures, I will try the Slax disk again later and see if I have any luck.

underd0g to tell u the truth i was really afriad to do the wire trick myself but aas a last resort after buying a sata card nd slax not workin i took a deep breathe said a prayer nd did it worked wonderfully i reccomend it to u if u dont have any sata drive to hotswap but if u do the wire trick have someone to turn the 360 on for u so u dont have to worry about that only seperatin the wire. After u flash u wont have to worry cause u can get into B by ejectin the drive unopluggin the 360 with it ejeceted then turnin it bak on
