You can get a free guide using Zap2it and WiRNS.

The problem is there is an activation fee for the unit itself which is kinda gay in the 45xx and 55xx Sonic Blue models.

Activation fee for what? You pay for the unit you dont need the service of the guide... So what are you paying for in order to use something that you own?

This should be circumvented somehow I can think of a way to do it but... There is probably an easier way via an exploit of some sort like they do for the XBOX ...
