From what I've seen Ritek g03s are pretty much the most popular disc due to their low cost, high compatibility and good quality. Now that they seem to have stopped being made or are at least sold out everywhere I am curious as to what the next most popular mid-price dvd-r will be. I heard ritek has something like a 30% market share of dvd media sales, but I dont think people want to pay more for 4x if thats all their making. Anyone know of a contender for the best all around dvd-r media?

You dont pay more for a G04 than you would've payed for a G03. You will actually find that some G04's are cheaper than the G03 it replaced. For instance:
Ritek G03's 1/2x £27.50
Ritek G04's 4x £26.99
You just don't use them at 4x if your writer is not compatible
