This has been confrimed to be working, it is an anlternate and newer way to the solder method.
Here are the steps:
-Turn off the Xbox 360 and PC.
-Connect the SATA cable from the MS28 drive to the PC, and also use -croc clips to be safe.
-Leave a PC CD or DVD drive on one of the IDE channels
-Turn on the PC and boot from floppy , but leave the 360 off.
-When you get to command prompt, turn 360 on.
-Type this command: mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin and hit enter
-It should display your ports. Do NOT select anything, just leave it -at the "menu"
-Turn off your 360.
-Now, select the port the 360 was connected to, even though the 360 is -now off.
-It will "pause" when you select that port
-I counted to ten, then turned on the 360
-It started reading automatically
If done correctly you should succeed!

We should make our own, i have been asking forever for the mods to reply to me if it's ok to make one for this forum, but no response.
Thanks for the post anyways, a lot less questions, hopefully, repeated.

I found a link on the MS28 here to and suggests an alternative to the soldering?
Turn off the Xbox 360 and PC.
Connect the SATA cable from the MS28 drive to the PC, and also use croc clips to be safe.
Leave a PC CD or DVD drive on one of the IDE channels
Turn on the PC and boot from floppy , but leave the 360 off.
When you get to command prompt, turn 360 on.
Type this command: mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin and hit enter
It should display your ports. Do NOT select anything, just leave it at the "menu"
Turn off your 360.
Now, select the port the 360 was connected to, even though the 360 is now off.
It will "pause" when you select that port
I counted to ten, then turned on the 360
It started reading automatically
If done correctly you should succeed!

Hi,
all drives have a memory chip in it that controlls it, but if you want it to do or be capable of other things, you reinstall info in the chip- flashing.
here when you flash it you can play burnt games!

then do backup a game, do i just burn it w/ a dl drive and a dl disc or do i need a program to take of decryptions like backing up a dvd?

it gets more complicated than that, you should refer to teh .pdf file above, it tells you everything.
but bascailly you extract the game image and then you burn it with the latest version of CloneCD at 2.4X with DVD+R DL but be +R not anything else!
read before you do anything

I'm getting the message: Sorry, this file is no longer available. It may have been deleted by the uploader, or has expired." when i visit the link on the post.
I'm guessing the main difference between the chip and flashing is that you can play Xbox live with the modchip, but flashing the firmware would be detected, hence no Online playing?
thanks for your help.
Cheers.

That guide makes the whole process extremely easy, I flashed my Ms 28 a few days ago using textbook's guide and it only took a few minutes.
Anybody who is going to flash their drive should read it.

Could someone please give me a valid link to the easy way to flash a MS28 drive without having to solder? I don't have a VIA chipset either so I can't use the bad flash recovery way. Is there any other way to flash a MS28 Drive a easy way? Why the hell does Microsoft have to be so damn complicated?
