Purchased Ridata DVD-R DL 4x speed frpm Supermedia 8/02/2006. I have used Ridata DVD+R DL 2.4x speed without any problems. But this is the first time I tried the DVD-R DL and my Sony burner won't even recognize the discs---any of them!!
I tried to download their online return form, but the page can't be accessed!
Has anyone experienced this problem with Ridata?

What's the model # of your sony burner?

What's the firmware version of that sony drive?

The dash Dl media is also very new. If your drive has the capability to burn the dash Dl media, you may have to update the firmware. These firmware updates are needed to keep up with the newer/faster dvd media.. If your burner's firmware isn't programmed for those ridata dash 2.4x,that'll definitely give you a no disc error.

I'm just guessing but I'll bet your drive isn't compatable with DL DVD-R media. Not many drives are. Only very rescent models. Why not stick with DL DVD+R media especially if your drive is capable of bitsetting.

I have a Sony DRU-810A, and I updated the firmware to 810A_1.0e but the drive still doesn't recognize the DVD-R DL blank disc. So, I will use DVD+R DL from now on, since I have had success with those.

Your fw looks up to date, according to my site:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2179

It also has dash DL capability. I don't see a lot of peeps using dash DL media.

Dash DL backups may have more trouble getting them to play on stand alone players. You should be better off using Plus DL media.Your drive should have the bitsetting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom,on +r/+rw/and +rDL media.

I would also try ,if you haven't already, the new ImgBurn program for doing those +DLs writing and burning with ISO files that ImgBurn can create and burn. Sweet program for the layer breaks. If you have used it, then I'm sure you still are?
