Does anyone know where i can find instructions on desoldering a blown BA5815FM chip and then soldering in a new one? I recently bought a new chip for my system since the old one died but i dont want to replace it without knowing what im doing.

The old chip will have to be desoldered by using a surface mount desolderer, which is quite expensive, a simple way, is get a pin, heat one pin at a time, and lift it using the pin, leave the 2 middle connections on the motherboard till the last, first lift all the small legs, then heat one of the big legs, and gently lift it up on one side, not too much, then the otherside, and you should have it off. Dont pull the pins because the pads will break of the motherboard.

I dont know where any pics or instruction are, but it should be quite simple. Just requires patience.

I have a V7 Playstation in my hands, that the Worm Gear is no longer turning. I have disassembeled the unti completely, and I see no blown fuse. Is it likely that this chip is the cause? Or is it more likely that the worm gear stepper motor is the culprit?

Is there anyway I can test the motor to be certain it is the problem?

Thank you,
ViriiGuy

PS. I should add that while the laser body does not move, the laser itself does move up and down and it does light up. It just no longer tracks back and forth.

Give some power to the motor from its terminals, maybe 5v, and check if it spins, if not it could be finished.
