First I apologize if I've posted in the wrong formum but this one looked like the most appropriate.
Recently purchased a new HDTV and I'm having trouble intergrating my cable company provided digital box, a Scientific American Explorer 3250 HD, and a Panasonic DV recorder, DMR E85H, and the TV, LG 37" LCD model.
When viewing TV via the cable box the picture is nice and sharp (Progressive mode). When viewing TV via the DVR, the video is, at best, crappy.
Here's the setup I finally got to work:
I have a splitter in the main cable feed to route the cable signal to the Panasonic unit and the other leg to the digital cable box. The RF out on the digital cable box is not used. The RF out on the DVR unit goes to the TV.
Both the digital cable box and the Panasonic are connected to the TV with component cables (Component 1 and 2) and Right and Left audio cables. There is also a right and left audio connection between the Digital cable box and the DVR. I think I found I had to install that to get audio.
What I'd like to do (if possible) is to be able to run the TV signal through the system so I can use the DVR to record TV shows and have the same quality I'm seening when I watch TV via the digital box. I'm almost positive I've got things connected incorrectly, but that was the only way I could get the three units to play, but not necessarily play together nicely. It seems I shouldn't have to use a splitter but rather just feed the RF into the digital cable box and distribute it from there, but every combination I've tried hasn't worked.
Final notes: We're talking basic newbie here that comes from the "cable only connection school".
