Not quite sure why it's not working. I've tried backing it up with DVDFab-->Shrink-->and then burning it with decryptor. No Luck. I then tried backing it up with Ripit4me and again no luck. Any suggestions?

Have your tried skipping RipIt4Me all together and just ripping with DVD Decrypter by it's lonesome and then proceed with DVD Shrink as usual? You might also try just ripping with DVD Shrink to begin with.

i'm not sure i understand correctly, do you have successfully burned disks from shrink? both via fab and ripit4me? and they won't play in your player. did you try playing the dvds on your computer? if they work there it might mean an incompatibility problem of the media with your toshiba stand alone player. if you are using the same media you usually use (many agree that taiyo yuden and verbatim are best, followed by sony and maxell "made-in-japan" (mij))... then it's more of a mystery.

OK, I don't get it. I have never had a problem in the past getting a disk to play on my tosiba(not sure how the heck you knew this) stand alone player. But for some reason it's not working on this disk. When i open the newly backed up copy of the disk with DVD Shrink it opens fine. The only other disk I've had a problem with is Larry the Cable Guy which I'm thinking I'll never wear out the original because I'll never be watching it again. RV no problems. Inside Man no problems. Silent Hill no problems. I did try backing it up with only decryptor and shrink and still no luck. Any help from a person smart than I would be a huge help.

Thanks

sorry to hear you haven't resolved this frustrating problem. from looking at the ripit4me log it doesn't look like there is really much protection on that disk. and it looks like fixvts did see and correct just a few things. you said the disk opens with shrink. does it open with a regular dvd viewing program (like windows media player or powerdvd, etc.) on your computer? and you are using the same media you normally use? if so, my only suggestion would be to process the dvdfab output file through VobBlanker prior to shrink-ing it. it SHOULDN'T be, but perhaps there is some structural issue that fixvts didn't detect or correct that VobBlanker might correct. and i don't remember too many people having problems with larry the cable guy either, so it is peculiar that these particular disks are problematic for your system. sorry i couldn't be more help. try running through blanker before shrinking, and maybe try another brand of media...

If you are getting no errors in Shrink, I would go with surfgeo's suggestion. The disk probably has no true errors but unreadable by your player. This is normal with marginal media. It can only be read by really good readers. You can confirm that by playing the disk on the computer. If it plays fine, you need to buy a different media. The good news is you can copy the poor media disk on to a new media with Nero. The copy on the better media will be a normal viewable disk. The second rate media is OK for making unplayable back ups. I am too cheap to throw out blanks if they are usable in any way.

Most high volume copiers are very picky about their media. This is why.

You can try up grading your firmware on your burner. I just bought a new burner because even with the firmware upgrades I was having trouble finding anything that would burn well on my oldest burner. I had stopped using that computer for backups for that reason. Most of my second rate media became first rate with the new burner. I do not know if that was because it was just because it was new (new firmware) or because the new burner was a top grade burner. (Lite-On)

Thanks for all the input. The media I've been using is Fuji +R's. Never had any trouble in the past with these so I'm hesitant to switch. But I'm probably going to switch to one of the higher quality ones that are mentioned in other posts. BTW I was finally able to back up Over There(great show if you've never seen it). I first backed it up to my hard drive with DVDFab and then ran it through VobBlanker and then finally i just put the whole thing menus and all thourgh Shrink and burned with Decryptor. THANKS AGAIN for all the help. I try not to clog forums with asking the same question as everyone else but sometimes you have to go out and find someone smart than yourself to solve a problem.

@splatle

glad to hear you've got your successful backups.

i always run things through VobBlanker, just for "insurance". it only takes 5 minutes, can't hurt anything, and certainly can clean up a lot of structural problems (not to mention the "blanking" one can do if so inclined).

as for your media, some people report liking fuji, especially if they are "made in japan" (vs. taiwan). since you've been reading about media you probably see that the favorites are taiyo yuden and verbatim.

i hope you will also consider keeping ripit4me in your toolbox. it is updated often and i just successfully backed up sony's "friends with money" yesterday, even before the new ripit4me version came out today.

one final thought, you might want to check the firmware of your burner and see if it is up to date.

continued success burning!
