Help! I have sound but no video on my Toshiba laptop

I have a toshiba laptop model PA2722U 2 and the only purpose of me having it is to watch dvds on it. I have powerdvd and I put the dvd in and it starts but then goes black and it has sound but no picture. Can anyone help? I am not a computer wiz and neep help.
