this is like a SOS cry to DOCty but i'll try to help

silver lacquer- cheap surface thats shinny
thermal- used for thermal disc printing, unless you have a thermal printer then stay away.
silver inkjet- injecttable media but silver in color, makes it look more professinal than white(below)
white injet- white inkjetables, cheaper than silver, but more than regular.

cant remember any others.... but fell free to add people!

AlBundy: You are my mentor, LOL. Great name!

I've got the epson R-200. Make sure you use inkjet printable media. Some discs you see that say printable may be thermal printable. Huge difference between inkjet and thermal printables.

White-full hub inkjet printable: Top of these discs are a paper with matte finish. Glossy inkjet printable should be coming out,but not sure if ty will offer any. These look very good because you can print almost all the way to the inner hub-hole. Awesome for dark covers, but not so for the lighter ones.

White-reg hub inkjet printable: Same as above, but prints to about 20 mms from the inner hub-hole.

Shiny-inkjet printables. These will have a silvery/matte finish. Look nearly identical to the shiny printables. The price for these are higher. This is by far my favorite, but I only have reg hubs. Full hub shiny inkjet printables should look awesome,if I could find some quality ones. Looks great on dark or light pics.

Silver thermals: These are meant for a thermal printer. No writing on the top of the disc. Cost is cheaper-25 cents or so each. The epson will print on these discs, but the ink won't dry. Sharpies will write on these very well, LOL

Full Hub/Regular Hub: Make sure your target settings are correct for the style of hub you are using. Hard to get this mixed up. Huge size difference between the 2.
20 mms for full hub and 40 mms for reg hub is a rough estimate.Epson's Print cd software is pretty easy to use.

Make sure you read the ad thoroughly for Inkjet printable media. I bought Ty thermals instead of shiny inkjet printable my first purchase. Those were some awesome Ty-g02 and no loss.

I got a pic in my user profile with all my Labeling options if you want to get a general Idea how they look.

Try:
Meritline.com
Supermediastore.com
Rima.com
Americal.com

Those are some reputatable net stores for genuine Taiyo Yuden media.Search all them for the cheapest price.

Sam's club is where I bought mine for $79
If you got a staple's nearby, check them out. They have epson printers on clearance from time to time.I paid $50 for my dad's epson R-200 at staples.

Let us know when you get that printer. I've got lots of cover sites to get my pics from and Meritline.com has ink carts for under $15 for the entire set of 6.

Nice covers IHoe.

Media at blankmedia.ca:

Shiny inkjet printables:
http://blankmedia.ca/prodsubcats.asp?id=58

Full hub white inkjet printables:

http://blankmedia.ca/prodsubcats.asp?id=59

Notice the verbatim glossy full hubs, they should look sweet-but very pricey!

The description of those printables clearly state shiny inkjet printable and full hub white inkjet printable.

I didn't check any prices, but the plus format will probably be more expensive than the dash format. That's why my shiny inkjet printables are dash and everything I buy locally is plus format. Those shiny Plus discs usually run double the price,as apposed to the identical dash discs.

That's a question I asked a long time ago. Why,when purchasing media on the web,is the dash format cheaper than the plus?

Dash is superior?
Not if you have a booktyping capable DVD-RW drive.

Most popular because it's older, therefore, sell more so cost is lower?

I would love to see the ligitimate answer to that, but it's probably a bunch of hog wash.

All dvd media at any local stores like wallyworld,OM,OD,staple's,etc is the same price-whether it's the plus or dash of whatever's on sale.I'll bet those stores get their media for the exact same price.

Excellent prices on the web for dash. Not so much for us Booktypers of the plus format.

I've seen Ty-g02 going for 20 cents each, while the plus format of the same tys were 30-40+ cents. I can find full hub/white inkjet printable verbatim and maxell at most local stores, but not the shiny inkjet printables. For the huge savings on those shiny inkjet dash printables,I'll stick with dash format on them.

saugmon- What you said !

The only answer I ever got digging into the dash )DVD-R( versus the DVD+R's on the cost issue was twofold - One was a standards thing -like with the VHS logo on a Blank videotape - In order to be able to be called/classified DVD+R the DVD+R disc gas to be tested to meet certain minimum standards where as DVD-R does'nt ! Two was or is that DVD+R format coming on the scene after DVD-R was supposedly better ? because the manufacturers improved on DVD-R with the technical qualities of DVD+R ! Whether there is any truth to either ? is debatable ! Because you can buy DVD-R or DVD+R media atleast the branded kind at the major retailers for the same price ! online with the taiyo's and such it's a different story as you said. For me I try to buy DVD+R given the choice being a BenQ convert . I still use DVD-R though & as long as I've stuck with quality
media ,I've never had problems with either ! You learn to burn or you get burned right? anyways thought I would put my .002 cents - .0175 cents adjusting for inflation in . LOL!!! Good luck oh Tadpole Rancher !!!!

DVD-R discs are more expensive to make than DVD+R discs: 1) -R needs a 2-beam laser master recorder for the glass masters because of pre-pit shapes; 2) all DVD-R discs must be initialized after manufacturing on a separate drive (These drives run as much as $8,000 apiece.) However, there is more demand for DVD-R because it is more popular in Japan as the first DVD recordable disc and more popular in duplication circles because of aggressive DVD-R drive support. It is true that Philips is a bit stricter on approval of stampers, but that should not matter much. Other factors may be the royalties involved and how strictly they are enforced.
