What type of soldering iron will I need to solder on a mod chip for my ps2? The one I currently own has a huge tip and is 30watts so I won't be using it on such a delicate job. http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Produc...product=6412004 And I heard that you need at least a .5mm tip to make the tiny connections. My soldering skills are average and most of my work has been on rca and xlr cables, but those are huge so its not really hard. Can anyone recommend a soldering iron that will work well for me? I jsut need to know the name of one or what type of wattage and tip diameter to look for. Also, if I just grind or file the tip of my soldering iron, will that work if I can get it small enough? What size of tip should try to grind to (an object refernce would help)? Besides solder, multimeter, magnifying lens, and wire what else will I need? Thanks in advance for any help.

you could use the 30W but, at that high a wattage you can very easily burn the board. I'd recommend getting a 15W iron and for the tip I don't know what the spacific measurement is but there are a lot of very small points so you'd want a fine tip. I don't think grinding or filing a tip down is a good idea because doing that will remove the tinning that's on the tip. besides the things you mentioned I would say get some flux and something like braided wire to remove excess solder or remove solder if you happen to make a mistake.
