I am planning on buying an XBOX or PS2, with the main purpose of using as a multi-format emulation system such as NES, SNES, Genesis, Atari etc. I prefer PS2 but i do believe that the XBOX might be superior when it comes to emulation. Some factors which may need to be taken into account :
Cost wise - it will be almost the same, as each system is similary priced and both would have to have a mod chip installed. An upgraded hardrive to store the roms on the Xbox may cost a bit more but it is more than worth it.
Medium/storage - On XBox i would load the roms to the inbuilt 8 gig(or 3rd party upgraded)hardrive. On PS2, the roms would be run from the CD/DVD drive with a CDR or DVDR disc.
Compatibility - I think Xbox may be able to run more formats and systems. I do know that the N64 is capable on Xbox but doesn't exist for PS2, which is an important factor for me.
Reliability/Quality of emulation - The framerate, sound, video etc are all important aspects of the emulation software. I am not sure about the quality of these software emulations. Are the Xbox emulation software superior to the PS2? can this even be measured?
Ease of Use - How difficult will it be to load in the roms on each system? Are they simple procedures or require technical knowledge?

Which do you think is better, PS2 or Xbox, to be used as an emulation system? So far, the Xbox seems like the best option.

without a doubt the xbox is better, you can play every system all the way up to ps1 and N64,watch and listen to any type of media and play back-ups right off the HD with no loader or hassle....

yeah, i was thinking that, lol.
I may just end up buying both systems(as they are getting relatively cheap nowadays) because i do love my Playstation, but for emulation the Box will kick ass.

Indeed, the Xbox is far superior than the PS2 in terms of emulation and multimedia capabilities.

While the PS2 can be set up to work in a similar fashion, it's much more costly and can be more hassle than it's worth. Especially since the Xbox can do everything using stock hardware.

Thanks goes out to theridges for the userbars :)

Yes, that pretty much sums up what i was thinking. I will definitely go for the XBOX. I have just checked out the Xbox multimedia software and it looked brilliant, the things you can do with it. I always used to be a PS2 snob against Xbox , but i think i am finally starting to respect it now, lol. It's capabilities and potential are enormous!
