I was able to backup United 93 with DVDFABdecrypter and either Nero or DVD Shrink to finish the job.

You should always be using the latest version of DVDFab! It's free, isn't it? lol

@Mr_Pink
i asked about the dvdfab version because there have been several beta versions out in the last week or so and some people have reported trouble with them, and then success going back to the previous non-beta version. i've decided to just use the latest non-beta versions. did you use any of the betas? did they work for you?

I tried w/ DVDFab then Nero.
DVDFab ripped it to HD w/ no problem. Then when I opened Nero Recode & selected
advanced analysis ( 2passes) after it analyzed, then when it started to encode it ........
I got a message saying OUT OF MEMORY. What's up w/ that ?

Check and make sure there is no unreferenced material file turning up on you compilation screen. This on is from Universal and they have the green shorts guy, if you check to remove that you should be good. I backed this one up with RipIt4Me full disk and ran it through Shrink no problem. Suspect file showed up as VTS_03_1.VOB in Decrypter which inserted Dummy Sectors.

I'm getting frustrated.......
When I check w/ windows task manager is shows 100% CPU usage ?
I have AVG Free edition on my PC tuned off & also windows firewall turned off.
I also have Shrink,DVD Decrypter,DVDFab Decrypter, Nero Recode, Ripit4Me,FixVTS all on my PC.
Could something be conflicting ?

what process is using the cpu that much? (click the "processes" tab of the windows task manager and look down the list to find what is using the high percentage of cpu...). if the name is something you don't recognize, you might want to google it and see what needs to be done to correct it.
might need to run your anti-virus/spyware programs.

DVD Shrink will use 100% of the processor when it is encoding. You named programs that should not conflict with each other. You did not say whether you ran the file through VobBlanker. An out of memory error can be caused by protection that is not being removed, as Recode is from the same developer as Shrink the errors are going to be the same.
Edit: dabig you also stated you used the beta of DVDFab did you try the last official version.

I'm pretty sure the disc holds more than 5 gigs. You may want to figure out a way to free up more space if you have only 1 drive. I have 2 and I write all my movies to my 80 gig drive and have only programs on my 13 gig drive.
When the movie is ripped, it's ripped at original size. Then Shrink does its thing and compresses it to fit onto a DVD5.

here's the guide for dvdfab + VobBlanker by alkohol:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154
as franster said, you need way more disk space... unless you have a tiny dvd (and united 93 isn't tiny)... any decrypter will create a file virtually the same size as the original movie. then you will need to fix structural problems with VobBlanker (or fixvts), and you will have ANOTHER output file nearly the same size (unless you edit/blank in blanker). then you will create still another file with shrink. of course you can delete the original decrypted file after VobBlanker finishes. but it's still gonna be way more than your 5gb. clean that puppy up!
ps ripit4me has "one click mode"... still need more room though...

using round figures... united 93 at 8gb:
decrypter output file 8gb
unedited blanker output file 8gb = 16gb total
(you can then delete the decrypter output file: 16-8 = 8gb)
shrink output file approx. 4.5gb = 12.5gb total
i like to keep my original decrypted file "just in case" there is some problem and i want to use it again without going through the decrypting process. keeping that 8gb file would leave a cumulative total of 20.5gb
if you use ripit4me, i think, and i stress "think", you will only need the output file (fixvts does not create a new output file, but works on the decrypted file, i think) of approx 8gb plus the shrink 4.5gb... for 12.5gb... it works out the same as deleting the original fab decrypter file after VobBlanker has successfully completed its work.
i hope someone else will check in on this as i could be completely wrong about the hd space requirements...

u are right surfgeo
Original movie rip 8gb
VobBlanker folder around 8gb(Maybe a little less) thats 16gb
Then shrink folder 4gb=20Gb
I would have at least 25Gbs free for DVDFab+Vobblanker
also u can delete the VobBlanker folder after ur done shrinking
Also not sure about Ripit4me way becuz havent used that program yet

RipIt4Me works great on this movie. I got a pretty good deal on Verbatims last week at Best Buy and bought way too many so I'm experimenting. heh

@300bowler
thanks for that. sometime when you've got a little free time you might want to install ripit4me and give it a try. it is very cool and simple and fairly fast. doesn't have the blanking option of VobBlanker. you can select "main movie only" or do a bit of deleting in shrink re-author of course.

You basically need more HD space. If you're saving files you might put unneeded files on DVD-RW and free up some space. Your sig says 2 HDDs 20 and 80 GB. You're not saving your DVD files are you? You don't need them if you got a good burn on your DVD.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I got it fixed. I had to use VobBlanker to remove the VTS_6 with was the unreferenced material. After that it worked great with DVD Shrink.
Thanks for your help. This is the first one that I have had major trouble solving.

I didnt save the AnyDVD list, but i did look at it. This movie had macrovision, bad/unreferenced sectors, invaild dvd structure, ripguard, etc.. They tried everything on this one. ripit4me got it easy as pie in the one click mode.
Anydvd worked fine, i just wanted to try ripit4me on this one because of all the junk they added.
Its great when we get a fine new program/program interface like that.
N2DVD has it in his link:
