I have been looking for a DVD player that plays mpg and maybe avi files off my DVD-R and DVD-RW backup discs. I tried a few and they either don't play them or the play freezes every few seconds. Reading forums, I saw that some models play MPGs (but mostly off CD-Rs) yet have ONLY the play/pause/stop options available (no FF or RW). Any suggestions ? APEX seem to have some good stuff but no detail on this particular issue.
Thanks :-)

Sorry, I guess I was referring to mpg videos which are retrievable from the net (i.e. music videos, concerts, etc) which I back-up on DVDs. MPEG-4 would be the main target...

Thx, Oriphus :-) I'll have 2 find it in the US. I read (DIVX forum) that there are some problems w/it, as u cannot view mixed media on a CD/DVD. If u have a jpeg, it won't read the AVI or the mpeg. Also, if there are AVIs and MPEGs on the disc, it'll only read the AVIs.

Hey, I guess you can't go wrong at this price...btw, 46.99 now. Problem is...it doesn't seem to be ready to play DVD-R and DVD-RW, and most of the stuff I have is on this type of media :-(
Thanks a lot for the info, I think I'll get one anyway, who knows ?

Just an update...I went to Best Buy w/a couple DVD-Rs full of AVIs and MPGs and tried all players...none could do it. Sony, Philips, Toshiba, Panasonic, Pioneer, KLH(recommended above), and every other brand/model.
Still waiting 4 the elusive player capable of reading mixed data (video/audio) formats on a DVD-R and DVD-RW...

Shinenonu,
If ur in the UK, i suggest a visit to
www.scan.co.uk
They have an awesome dvd there. It plays all the formats and I have had not a problem with any discs, VCD, dvd-r dvd-rw and cd-r/w..
Its a good player and if you have the cash, splodge out on their surround sound system as well.. not too expensive, but i can tell you, well worth the booming noise :)
come on, everyone else is doing it *grin*

Thanks for responding, everybody :-)
Oriphus - found it on e-bay and looking for possibility 2 have it shipped 2 the US.
security - my data is on DVD-R & DVD-RW. KLH seems 2 play ONLY CD-R & CD-RW media...
overseas - I am in the US...anyway, I believe you refer 2 the same as/Oriphus, right ? ELTA (same brand as the surround u mentioned ?)
Thx again
:-)
