My ps2 Keeps freezing and wont read disc's half the times anyone have any clue whats wrong or how to fix it X.x i really need to get it working by tonight i have VERY important tihngs i need to get.

its 90% oyure laser is stufffed you can try wipe it gently with a cloth and alcohol or turn the screw to adjust the height of it or just buy a new one ($100au)

I recently purchased a version-4 PS2 from eBay with the freezing problem. Sometimes, it wouldn't get past the opening "spinning cube" animation when you first power the system on.

I adjusted the voltage of the lasers (the two micro-potentiometers on the back of the lens) as well as cleaned the inside-mirror and the outer lens. This helped with detecting the discs but it would still occasionally freeze during a game or movie.

I then discovered that it ran fine when it was outside the case! It may be an improper ground inside (when its fully-assembled) or a heat-buildup issue.

I'm now trying to find where the 12V rail is on the PS2 so I can mod the case and wire-in additional fans...
