I purchased a spindle of Office Max 100 DVD-R media. I have tried to burn about 20 and they are all coasters.
I contacted Office Max and they want all kinds of documentation to return them despite the fact that they say office max on them.
Has anyone had any luck dealing with someone like Office Max and getting them to be responsible for thier product?

i had that same problem one time with Staples. i just carried them back to the store, with my receipt, and i had no problem. i do not see why they are giving you such a hassle. if i were you i would just go back up there with your receipt in hand, and demand my money back. what are they gonna do? good luck. i would also send an email to their corporate office. i did that with staples, and told them how bad their product was and they sent me a $25 gift certificate.

Office Depot is the only store brand media that I'll use. They use ritek and ricoh as their manufacturers.20 cents each when on sale!!!!
Associates in the store told me countless times if I had trouble with them, bring them back with:
Receipt
Outer shrink wrapper
Remaining discs
The only brand of media I trust at Office Max is the verbatim.$15 per 50 pk when on sale.
Quote: I have tried to burn about 20 and they are all coasters.
What kind of coasters?
Burn coasters?Failed while actually burning.
Playback issues?
No disc error? burner drive doesn't recognize that media,so it won't burn them. Also known as Failed during the lead-in phase,no actual burn took place.
Are those 16x speed blanks?
What's the brand name/model#/and firmware version of your DVD-RW drive?
Maybe a firmware update may be in order?

As Saugmon said, I have had no trouble with the 8X +Rs OD brand. Once I bought a -R stack and which had been labelled as +Rs. I don't use -Rs and they took them back with no problems. I buy the OD brand for my daughter as she is not allowed to use my 8X Sony TYs. LOL

Sometimes it depends on your age..........yes, discrimination! My 20's kids have an awful time returning defective goods. So either they give it to me or I go in with them.
dmerrick, you have to find out why you are getting coasters as per reasons Saugmon gave. He is the expert here in regards to media and will get down to the cause of your problems if you answer his questions.

Thanks for the response.
Coasters in this case because they will not play back. When used the entire copy process seems to go correctly. There are no error messages or indication that the burn has failed or that there has been any problem in the copying process.
When placed in the DVD player (tried 4 different ones) they will not play or indicated that the disc is not valid.
These are 16X 4.7 GB discs.
I did do a firmware update - no change.
I have also tried them on 3 different DVD Ripper/copier programs that I have. No change
I have had good luck with Office Depot for most items but they seem reluctant to replace these discs. Can't figure out the problem with the discs or Office Max at this point.

Forgot this part of the mystery. I have used other -R and +R DVD discs with the same programs and copying the same DVD's and they have worked and copy is playable?

Looks like Office Depot is lowering their standards on who makes their media. Ritek or Ricohjpn (who was making their media) is fairly good media but cmc magnetics is bottom of the barrel garbage. Looks like you found the problem. See if they will exchange them for some verbatim's, maxell's, fuji (mij), or sony (mij preferably).

Matters not, he got crap CMC mag media. I would bring in the coasters and maybe they might refund you money, I would doubt it. I'm sure they are trained to say "we are not responsible for what you did with the media that caused the problem, no one else is complaining and maybe your pc is at fault."
Edit: Has anyone found out what the Office Depot 16X +Rs code out as. I have the 8Xs which are good.

I think you have set me on the right track. It is the media and I just need to go back and demand that they replace it. Thanks for the hints and encouragement. I will let you know what the result of my last attempt to return this stuff is. Thanks again.

Stick with Office Depot, they use Ritek, the one and only time I used Office Max, was the time I got junk made in India, ick, the burner vomited and I returned them for a store credit. Never have had a problem with Office Depot. Love that place.
