So I bought a new CD-R/RW drive. It is made by memorex, and it is internal. Everything was going to plan, and when I finished installing it in place of my old, burnt out drive, the computer won't boot! I then proceeded to check the jumper-switches, and noticed that the drive that didnt need replacing was set to CS, while the CD-R drive was set to MA.
After what seems like hours of trying every possible combination, I just couldnt get the computer to boot, so now I have no CD-R or DVD-rom drives at all.

Does anyone know what i've done wrong?
If you need any more information I'de be happy to give it.

So the computer will boot without the new drive? I suspect the new drive has something wrong. Before exchanging it, though, try making the other drive (non-CD drive) the MAster and the CD drive the SLave. Cable-Select (CS) configurations can be dicey, so leave the other drive set as MASTER. Make sure all connections are secure and also that you haven't bumped the power supply cables to the motherboard, the CPU, the CPU fan, or the CPU fan itself loose. Try also using another IDE cable - the drive probably came with one, and maybe the old one is just bad. Otherwise, return the drive.

P.S. If the computer boots and then freezes or shuts down, keep the old drive around. That might be a power and/or overheating problem.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
