i use AnyDVD and shrink... then i burn with Nero through shrink...

my dvd -r's are memorex...

when i burn, i do not have any other options then 16x and maximum... i want to burn at 8x but i cant seem to adjust this...

when i go into Nero for speeds, it only says read speed, nothing for write.

i downloaded imgburn and that didnt seem to help me, since i couldnt figure out how to use it... yes, i'm a newbie, been burning for 4 months and i guess luckily.

lately i've ran into a ton of issues with failed burns and to be honest, i haven't a clue what half the dvd stuff means...

iso files, etc... i'm clueless...

right now, i just want to change the Nero burn speed.

i dont know geek speak.

Hi Blitz99
Do you have a blank in the drive before you go to pick the burn speed in Shrink?

For the failed burns probably cause of the media you are using - Memorex well sucks.

You can also post your last Nero log and we can take a peek & see if anything else is amiss.
For Nero 6 go to:
program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
For Nero 7 go to:
program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory.

Just copy and paste the last one - they are usually separated by something like this - ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Edit out the serial # too - usually begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Ok here's some suggestions:
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.3.1.20

Update Nero to this version - last one of 6 to autoburn w/ Shrink - 6.6.0.18. This may help some picking a different burn speed - but if you are using the same drive to read and write from (looks like from the log you are) your burn options may be limited like to 1x,2x, 2.4 or max using Nero to burn w/ Shrink.

Here's a link to some guides and how to autoburn w/ ImgBurn and Shrink:

Recorder: <DVDRW IDE 16X> Version: A089

Drive can use a firmware update to - the latest is A187. Here's a link:

Disc Manufacturer: RITEKF - 1

The Memorex you have were made by Ritek - ok. Firmware update may help them. Better to use would be Vebratim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.

Try these and keep us posted!

Try burning them at 8x speed, if u can select it. A good rule for burning speeds is half of what the max speed says on the box

somehow i ripped a movie and saved it to my HDD, then put in the blank and it allowed me to choose 8x copy speed.. this worked fine.

hopefully i can figure out how i did that. i also changed the output size to 4400 as shown...

thank you for your help.. i'm certain i'll have more questions soon.
