Burning dvd to hard drive in mpeg or avi???

can anyone help? i need a program that can burn my dvds to my hard drive in either AVI or mpeg? ive tried Nero and dvd encryptor but they only let me copy the dvd to VOB and ifo files! i would like to be able to rip individual scenes to if possible? Any help would be appreciated!

I use and recommend ImToo DVD Ripper. For freeware, you could try MediaCoder. Just google for both.

any other suggestions? is there a better program for doing this other that imtoo dvd ripper platinum? one that gives excellent transfer quality?

hi does anybody know imtoo dvd ripper? is it possible to rip 2 selected chapters into 1 file? it lets me rip individual scenes but i want to rip like 2 scenes into one file! if its not possible on imtoo ripper is there another program that can do this? i wish i knew this before i brought im too dvd ripper!

You could always use ImToo Ripper to rip the chapters to AVI and then use VirtualDub to join/ edit them.

i tried virtual dub cant figure out how it works! any other good joining programs???

To join 2 AVI files in VDub, open (or drag) the first one into VDub, then click File>Append AVI Segment then select your 2nd file. Then make sure you have Video and Audio set to Direct Stream Copy (Video>Direct Stream Copy, Audio>Direct Stream Copy) and then click File>Save as AVI and give a name to your new (joined) AVI. It then takes a couple of minutes to join.
