Try TMPGEnc, a dual processor 3.4 Ghz with 4 Gigs of RAM, some 6-packs, a comfortable armchair and some groovy music.....:-)

Things take time; this includes MPEG/VCD encoding. Ain't much you can do about it.

What do you mean by "huge file" and "MPEG"? File around 1.5GB and in MPEG-1 or...? And with what bitrate? I mean, your files can be already in VCD format.

Ok so the encoding process is meant to take time? like after 15mins i have 8% complete? is that normal? I use the nero thing completely, i don't use a seperate encoding program.
any answers would be great.

Don't encode with Nero. I hear you get horrible results.

Encoding takes time. A lot of time. To encode good quality SVCD from DVD might take over 20hrs with P4/2GHz.

And chriso123 is correct, Nero simply sucks when it comes to encoding. Use TMPGEnc, it's free and easy.
