HDL retail to HDL iso problems.

I have a retail HDL. MY ps2 is v4 unmodded. I loaded some HDLs from sks onto my hdd using winHiip and tried to run them after booting using my retail disk but no go. Most give me a black screen. I then found an old 0.7c iso and tried that, it booted fine and shows the list of games but once i choose something, it turns into black screen again. :(

a lot of games require you to enable certain modes for them to work.
