Hi I've had a 360 since release and decided last week to change my firmware, I didnt want to attempt it myself so I took it to my local computer fair where somebody could do it for me.

It took him around 30 mins, I picked it up and like an idiot I didnt ask him if I could see it working :o and Like an idiot again I didnt ask which firmware he put on it :o

I got the 360 home and tried a backup of Ninety Nine Nights (PAL) I burnt on a Traxdata dual-layer DVD with a Pioneer 111D at 2.4x. It took around 30secs then said "unrecognized disc" my brother got his 360 done at the same time so I tried one of his backups but this time a green and white screen appeared saying "Please put this disc in a xbox 360 console", at this point I assumed it was a disc problem or the way I was burning them so I tried a few more times burning different backups at different speeds etc but to no avail.

After trying 6 or 7 different times I gave up and decided to take my anger out on some brainless zombies on my original store bought copy of dead rising but the same thing "please place this disc in a xbox 360 console" tried again with pgr3 but the same thing, I then tried a DVD film, that worked but no games back-ups or originals work.

Has this happened to anybody else? Is my 360 dead?

All I can say is wow on this story. I'm guessing you didn't get a copy of your original firmware from the guy. It's borderline insane handing your 360 over to a stranger to tinker with it and not even knowing what firmware he put on it. Nevermind the fact you didn't check to see if it worked once he was done. It sounds like a bad flash. There's a way to come back from a bad flash on a Samsung without the original firmware. It doesn't always work though. I'm not sure on the Hitachi.

ha ha you got a new xbox drive let me explain

microsoft decided to encoded a special line of code in the xbox 360s original cd drive firmware if you try to change this firmware it does

1.block the update halfway through

2.allows you to install the update then blocks the drive from booting anything

this is why you need a backup of your firmware tough %$#%$# on you

@ bremner... don't listen to that ass. Which drive do you have, which firmware did he put on and did you get a copy of your original firmware?

i do to know what im talking about edited by ddp
and you can go straight to edited by ddp how many have you flashed here in the u.s i have flashed 175 xbox 360's and i ran into the drive lockout on half of them and that is expensive to replace a xbox 360 it cost me more money to replace the 360's back to customers and explain why the drive cannot be flashed so frankly you can go to edited by ddp unless you have ran into the problem and know what causes the problem you cannot say %^%$

Bull$hit spewed from johnodd4's mouth:

It says right in the first sentence that he has a release 360, idiot.

More crap spread threw many other posts, not just this one:
Quote:

It was a hardware change. Basically, it's a resistor which is causing the problem. If you were such a mass "modder", you'd know this.

And lets talk about some other shit you've been spreading. You say
Quote:
i have flashed 175 xbox 360's
yet in this post http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/383969#2306174 you say
Quote:
sorry the firmware hack is dead
So what.... you out screwing people over with bad flashes and stealing their money.

or

Quote:
the red ring of death is caused by a bad power supply
You have to get the error code. There can be a number of things wrong.

or

Quote:
bad news is a new power supply will cost you 300.00 sucks huh

Ya...ms is going to sell a ps for the same cost as a core system.

Why don't you start putting some facts behind your retarded comments and post some links, like many other members have asked you to do before.

I did get a backup of my original fw so thats one good thing. My drive is a samsung. If it is a "new drive" is there a way around it?

I gave my 360 to a total stranger because i dont have the expirence or the knowledge to do it myself or i would have.

Don't sweat it bremner, you aren't the one causing a fuss. That johnodd4 is some piece of work. Maybe posts like the one in the thread will finally get him at least a temp ban. Honestly does anyone here want to read crap like that?

BTW to answer the q if you have your original firmware you have should be good. Do you know if you have the newer ms28 drive? That can be flashed too with the bad flash recovery method.
