(Sorry for my bad english, I'm french...)
I've a big problem with my dvd writer pioneer a-05 : if I burn with windows xp pro and nero, the burning stops at 1%, after the lead-in.
But if I burn with windows98 and the same version of nero, no problem !
I've updated the firmware of the writer, but the problem persists.
you might have an issue with the ASPI driver that accesses the drive. Both Win98 and XP PRO come with their own version. Either the driver in Win98 is better or at some point you installed some kind of software that updated the driver, but you did not do the same on XP.
do a google search for ASPI and see if you can find some support.
I tried many versions of aspi drivers, but none helped me to correctly burn a CD.
I brought my writer to a friend who has windows xp home version, no system aspi driver, only nero's private aspi driver. With a big surprise, I constated that the writer has correctly done his job !
If someone has another proposition... Else I think that I'll format and install windows 98 again :-(
I have Pioneer 104 on WinXP Pro (no SP1) & no ASPI layer , other than the one Nero has installed.
I use Nero & altho you've been warned against it...it gives me 100% success !: )
It sounds like you may have a hardware config problem somewhere , such as Primary/Secondary or Master/Slave etc
