Hey folks, its 4.30am here and im real tired. Im probably not thinking straight, but how do i rip a Region 1 DVD on my Pioneer 105 region 2 (though i never chose a region and it says region not selected in menu)? If i was thinking straight i would probably go looking for a firmware hack/upgrade. I have an upgrade from 1.30 to 1.33 i think RPC2 <--(also think that bit). Any ideas people.
Jeez, im tired, off to bed!
Any help appreciated, even from bouncing sheep!! Baa

Never tried, it - sorry........
However - I am pretty sure, by upgrading the firmware, IT DOES NOT reset the rpc - but maybe wrong.....
Have you actually tried ripping the region 1 with:
dvdshrink
dvd decrypter
smartripper
If so what results did you get, cos I was lead to believe, when you rip - you are only ripping the encryption and NOT attempting to PLAY the dvd in any way, so the rpc should not be accessed... I also maybe wrong - interested to see other opinions on this topic....

I got a Pioneer DVR104 and i updated the firmware to 140 from a firmware site and it unlocked the region crap.
Now i just use DVD Decrypter and all works perfect, just backed up "Chris Rock - Bigger & Blacker, region 1" and made it all region.
can't remember the firmware site, but do a google search?

Oriphus,
You got to get a live, man!
As far as I understand the RPC hack does not make your drive specifically region free, but it allows you to change the region setting unlimited times. When you downloaded the 1.33 version, did it come with some support notes?
I have a generic BTC DVD-Rom drive and I updated the firmware with an RPC-1 code. The region change coutner is at 0, but it still lets me change the region either through the hardware manager or directly in WinDVD.
Listen to me now and believe me later

Dont follow you. Anyway, the point is the Pioneer is set to region free. I can change it 5 times, but it is set at no region. Hence, should it not work regardless of the region DVD.
Oh, i get you now....you talking about me being up at 4.30am. Yeah, is a bit sad i know, but i had shit loads of stuff to do. lol

Fellas. I does'nt matter what region the dvd-r drive is locked to. Don't try and play the movie in your dvd-r drive just rip movie from the drive using decryptor. I use DVD2One and then burn with Nero. You should find your backed up movie is region 0.

Yeah, thats what i originally thought, problem is DVD Decrypter, Smart Ripper and DVD Shrink wont do it. Its the Ring region 1.

Like I said... try to use the hardware manager to set the region to 1 and you should be all set.
SEMUK: Take it easy. If you don't like the technical side, don't bother to post messages that you don't.
BTW, even though the 105 does not show a current region, it is lock to the region in which country you bought it from. I believe in your case 2.
