Hello fellas,

So I am running Raid 0 and my motherboard dies. What are my options for retrieving the data on the drives?

Stick them both in a computer that already has a HD with an OS on it, make sure they're in RAID 0 setup again, and you should be able to read the important data off them.
From there you can format them and use them in your next computer.

And a personal advice, always use a seperate HD for the OS and software, and if you decide to use RAID again, use it for storage of your music/pictures/movies/personal files/etc

Does the chipset and/ or hardware configuration need to be identicle?

I was told by my brother-in-law that I needed the same motherboard to recover the data.

Not necessarily so, as long as the motherboard of the computer you intend to use has the ability to use RAID 0 it should just work.
You won't be able to use the OS that's on the RAID drives though, because for the OS to work it needs to be the same mobo/chipset
*which is probably what your brother-in-law meant*,
but again, that's why the computer you would use has to have a HD with an OS on it if you want to be able to recover the data.

Question, So you are saying that if I were to plug my two hard drives into any other motherboard (as long as that motherboard has two or more free SATA ports available and the SATA ports used were enabled) that I could read the information on my drives without adversely affecting the existing raid and/ or OS configuration on that motherboard?

you wouldn't be able to recover your data on a computer already using raid.

Okay, but I can use the two drives (configured in Raid)on any other computer systems that has Raid capability, so long as Raid is not being used... Is that right?

Hello Fellas,

Marc here (the original starter of this thread) and I wanted to report good news. I got my new MOBO (ASUS 8AN SLI Duelux) and am able to recover my data thru safe mode.

I say safe mode because... When it rains it pours right? Meaning that during the the 5 days that my systems was out of commission. My 6 month trial version of XPPro x64 ended and under normal operation mode I am unable to get into the OS.

Thanks for all the help fellas.
