I have DVD Shrink and AnyDVD and i have a Nero that works w/ shrink... the problem is that it takes an hour and a half to encode and another hour to burn... can u help me figure out a way so it wont take so long!!!

1st let's check and make sure you are in DMA mode & not the slow PIO mode.
Check under 'current transfer mode' too - Ultra DMA should be listed there too.

Could also be a firmware upgrade is needed. How old is your DVD writer? That could also be a big reason if it's dying.

I check the DMA of my one drive, it is Ultra DMA 2, and my dvd burner i just bought, but it is external and it doesnt say the DMA for that

Ok how is your external drive connected like thru 2.0 usb port?

Do you have any of the quality enhancements in shrink selected like 'deep analysis'?

What are the pc spec's?

its not 2.0 port... i do have the deep analysis... the cpu has 20 gb, 1 gb RAM, and a dvd-rom/cd-rw drive 52x read/24x write i believe

Using a 1.1 usb port then? That would probably be the reason for the times burning.
The times for encoding with deep analysis usually doubles - I only use this option on 60% or lower (if that's as good as I can get removing what I don't want)
But w/ your Ram now just need the CPU. Right click on 'my computer' then properties if running XP will give you something like Intel Pentium R processor 1.73 GHz as an example.

No multi tasking going on while using Shrink? Check this option - will slow it down a bit too. Edit>Preferences - a checked placed by 'run analysis in low priority mode to increase multi tasking.

Ok with the specs and the deep analysis 1-1/2 hrs is about right.
If yiou haven't vert recently - do a disc cleanup and a system defrag - good to do regularly and may help some.

For the burning - if using a 1.1 usb port that's about right too. To increase that you'll need install a 2.0 usb pci card. Another option would be firewire if the drive can connect w/ it and you have a firewire port.

Looks like it - just keep the pc clean to keep it running smooth.

If you aren't using much compression might want to uncheck deep analysis to speed things up - will just encode in 1 pass instead of 2.
