Can I softmod my PS2 with the following items?

I want to softmod my PS2 but I don't have any money at the moment :( I want to know if it's possible with the following items I have (I have a fat version PS2 by the way, version 7, my friend has an earlier one if need be though):

Network adapter
6GB hard drive
USB case for using hard drive externally
Homemade drive unlocking tool
A whole load of CD-Rs
1 PS1 game (Knockout Kings 2000)

Anything I can do with these or will I have to save up and buy an AR MAX/Swapmagic?

swap magic v3.6 would probably be only be $20 - 30, Armax $50. I use swap magic for all by burned games and it works great.

Really, Swap Magic would be the only way I can think of for you to cheaply play backup games.

Then again.. add a paperclip, a ball of yarn, and chewing gum to your list of resources, and you could probably call in McGuyver to do it for you.

hey .. i'v been lookin into the exact same thing, because i got no money to spend so iv been looking into all the networking and HD loaders and all that stuff. But so far the only way i have found which would work is if we manage to network a computer to the ps2 using a program like InLink and then loading the boot files on to the ps2 so that we can boot the cd with the exploit on it.

for every forum i have been in which is alot so far every body just says its not posible or its not worth it but a friend of mine networked hes ps2 with his computer and is able to load files onto it but he just wont tell me how he did it.

so once he tells me and i get it going ill get back 2 ya
