Hello,
I just spent 6 hours trying to convert a 1h 30 minute film from AVI to MPEG using TMPGEnc when it got to 100% it gave me an error message and the 2.5gig MPEG it has made plays without sound. Although the film ends at 1h 30 the MPEG file runs on for 4 hours for some reason. could this have something to do with the lack of sound?
Please can anybody help? I'm tired and confused.
thanx.

Ok, do all of the following,
Firstly, open your movie in VirtualDUB
1. click video - direct stream copy
2. click audio - full processing mode
3. click audio - compression, select no compression pcm and click ok
4. click file - save as AVI!
Check the saved AVI (which will be much larger) to see if the audio stays in sync and everything is fine!
Then open the AVI in TMPGEnc and do the following..
Click the setting button and click the advanced tab! Select source range and double click it. Then click "move to start frame" then click "set start frame" click "move to end frame" and click "set end frame"!
Then click ok and go back to the main screen!
Click option and click environmental setting! Click the CPU tab and unselect SSE and SSE-2. Then click ok till you are back at the main screen, click setting again and click the quantize matrix tab, amke sure use floating point is NOT selected! Then click ok and try the encoding!

I just went to Options/Environmental Settings/VFAPI plug-in and raised the "Direct Show Multimedia File Reader' to 1 ( by right-clicking on the line and click 'Higher Priority') and it is encoding as i type!
hope this works!

nippy, that is what i was gonna tell you to do! lol
DMW, with SSE and SSE-2, use floating point has to be selected so they have to be disabled tro switch floating point off!

I completed the AVI/MPEG transferand then tried to burn with Nero. But it said that it was not a VCD file and said it had to re- encode it. But it was a MPEG file!!???
I doubt Nero's attempt at encoding it will work!
Any pointers?

Do you encode it to Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 ? If it was Mpeg2 tell Nero to burn an SVCD not VCD. Neros conversions never seem to hot when they finish!! Well never worked for me anyhoo.
Hope it helps

lol @ Dela, i was just gonna cancel my post as you posted, heres how it read.
"I'm not sure on the definate answer, my experiences wit htmpeg have all been with the wizard and mostly succesful. Dela may come back with a real solution but until then try the wizard, it may work for you.
Hope it helps"
