Not sure if this belongs here but let's try.

I have copied a home movie onto my stanadlone DVD recoreder and now want to make multiple copies on my PC. I thought this would be really simple but the files are in .VRO format and I have no idea hw to make multiple copies on my pc. DVD copy with Nero doesn't work. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello.

I haven't done this but here are some suggestions:

Try VCDGear to convert to mpegs.

http://www.vcdgear.com/download.html

Use TMPGEnc Author. Version 1.6 is fully functional in trial mode:

http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda16.html

If it doesn't work, try version 2.

See if ISOBuster will extract the mpegs:

Here's a link where they use a coiple of free programs:

Try changing the extension from .VRO to .VOB (or .mpg).

Thanks, yes I changed the extention to .vob and was able to import it to Nero vision, but I needed to create the DVD and reder it etc. Can I not just copy the DVD directly somehow rather than go through the hassle of re-rendering??

Thanks

I would assume if 'Enable Smart Encoding' is ticked there will be no "re-rendering" done. You will know because during the process 'Smart Encoding' shows up in Nero Epress during the burn. It should do it fairly quickly.

Like Jeffers, I too have been trying to copy DVD's that I have produced on my DVD recorder from my camcorder. I have had similar problems and no luck at all using Nero. Eventually I have resorted to simply loading my discs into my stand alone DVD player and linking the output from that into the input of my DVD recorder. I have only tried this so far, using the white and red audio leads and the yellow video lead and it works perfectly. Presumably the links could be made using the scart outputs and inputs or using an S-video lead. The quality of the copy looks fine but, in reality, am I losing quality using this method and which of the three ways of making the link would be best? Thanks in advance.
