hi pittfan,
i have to do this as my old hitachi got bricked ,,,now all iam getting is a smsung drive and dint work as i just pluged it in the 360..
with the method u have showed i guess i have to copy the old hitachi's dvd key to the new samsung drive....... is that correct???
next thing is what did he mean by inserting code2???
if u answer these questions then i guess i will not have to throw my console anymore.
waiting for reply...........

Yeah you need to copy the old drives key to new one and COD2 "code2" he meant Call of Duty 2

Anabi, I noticed that you went the opposite way (hitachi to samsung)with success. I want to do the same thing as you but I am a complete novice. Can you tell me exactly how you went about doing this hitachi to samsung drive swap.

This is awesome, and should be stickied. I was wondering if this was possible. My 360 died Tuesday, after only 11 days after being taken out of the box. I'm buying a new one tomorrow, and was hoping this was possible in case I get the Hitachi 078 drive.
AD MODS: Please sticky this!!

@ genjitoki
first u shud have the orig.bin(the backedup original firmware)
second copy the dvd key from the hitachi drive and paste them in notepade or anywhere u can as this number is called the dvd key .
it can be done using the program shown in the link above
now u open the orig.bin file of the samsung drive and paste the copied number at the place of the samsungs dvd key .
save it as that will be ur dvd key modified orig.bin file
then inject it back to the samsung drive . that shud work perfect

Anabi_Ltd, thanks a lot man. I really appreciate your help.
Just to clarify one last point of confusion: Utter Chaos (from the link above) had to encrypt his FW with FirmCrypt because he had a Hitachi. Since I have a samsung drive, I don't need to encrypt before flashing, right?
Thanks again.

Okay, I just got my samsung drive. I used "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" to backup the samsung FW. Used KDX 1.5 to copy drive key from my old hitachi FW and pasted it into the samsung FW and saved the modded samsung FW as modified.bin. Injected newly modified FW using "mtkflash w /m modified.bin".
When I put in an xbox360 original game, I cannot play it and I get a white screen with the message: "To play this disc, put it in an Xbox360 console." I double checked the drive key for correctness and i tried both the xtreme3.0 fw and the original samsung fw. No matter what i get the same message. What am i doing wrong?

sorry for double post, but my problem has been solved.
It seems that after the fall update, kdx1.5 isn't a good program to use for swapping drive keys. Gigabite from the xboxhacker.net forum told me to use firmware toolbox instead of the kdx. everything works now.
