I've got Maxtor 160GB hard drive (Model 6L160PO) which I've checked should work with PS2 and a used network adapter. (My model I believe is version 9 or 10, I can't remember exactly but I believe it was SCH 50001 or something close) But HD Loader I got off the link from guide here won't detect my hard drive. Tried everything I could think of doing on my own including several different versions of HD Loader.

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Do I need to set up my network adapter with my PS2 first? The one I bought didn't come with any setup disc and I wasn't aware I needed one since no guide I've read on the net mentioned it. Mine is the one with two holes... ie. ethernet connection and something else. If that's the case, I might have to return the one I got and try to get another one with the CD.

It could be that one of them doesn't work since I do believe hard drive should be compatible and as far as I can tell, the people who's used it used HD Loaders, too. I haven't been able to figure out how to connect the hard drive to my computer to check if it works. And to format it in PS2 format with PC since that could be possible reason although from what I've gathered, HD Loader should be able to do it on PS2. The hard drive is IDE but my PC hard drive isn't as far as I can tell and I got no idea how to connect it and make it work. Going to go into a computer store to ask around and buy whatever I need to connect it. Anyway thought maybe someone here might be able to help in the meantime.

I would really appreciate any help/advice you guys can provide.

Thanks!

could be that the jumper settings on the harddrive are set incorrectly. Double check the jumper and set it to master.

Thanks for the reply. Already tried that unfortunately. That and some other jumper settings by switching around the jumper. It still didn't work.

That's my next step. Just need to figure out how to attach it to the computer. My PC hard drive doesn't look like it's IDE and I don't see any extra IDE connection other than the ones connected to the DVD drive and writer. Tried that but didn't work out so I'm gonna have to find out how pretty soon, preferrably today, and do it.

Just wondering, after I've attached, the computer and/or winhiip is supposed to pick up the fact that the hard drive is attached automatically.

yes they should both detect it. It might not show up in windows (due to formating etc.) but the pc should detect the hdd.

Yes Wihiip and your computer should see the drive automaticly you can also use a Hard Drive Enclosure and connect it to your PC via USB and winhiip will detect it.

Ok, just picked up USB Enclosure to make sure I know the hard drive works correctly then I can isolate the problem to the network adapter and return it. Hopefully, it's just formatting to work with PS2 that's the problem. When I connected everything with PS2 and tried HD Loader, the hard drive seemed to be turned on and spinning and what not judging by the noisy sound I'd never heard before from PS2. So I'm hoping it's just a small problem I can fix on my end.

I don't have to set anything up other than putting the HDD in the enclosure and connecting to the PC to make winhiip read it, do I? Didn't read that in any guides so I didn't think much of it before, just wondering now. Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it.

Ok, now I think there's something wrong with hard drive. Tried connecting using USB enclosure and it detects the drive but after a little while, it says there's a problem while installing and the device might not work properly. And sure enough, can't see it on My Computer list and winhiip won't detect it and I don't know what else to do. Tried messing with Device Manager but didn't work either. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm thinking I'll take it to where I bought the thing, see if they can make it work with their computer using USB enclosure and if not, return/exchange it.
