I've been having trouble lately with my PS2 (Silver, the old fat model, not modded). It refuses to read game or DVD discs. When inserting a disc it picks up that it's a DVD / PS2 disc (which tells me that at least some part of the PS2 and laser are still working), but then it says "no data". I've tried using a laser lens cleaner disc - one of those with the tiny brushes on the cd, but that didnt help. Any ideas?

Laser cleaning discs can actually damage the laser, especially in a PS2.
Use a cotton bud (Q-Tip) dipped in rubbing alcohol, or an alcohol based cleaner to clean the laser. Of course, you will need access to the laser to do this.

Thanx, I'll try that before throwing the old PS2 in the rubbish bin :)

Any guides on how to safely open up the ps2 and get to the laser?
