Will sony finally remedy this dreadful problem that plagued the ps 2 ? For what they're asking for the ps 3 I sure hope they resolve this issue !

certainly one of the fortunate owners. i got a system at launch which i still use, but occasionally i would run into "disc error" prompts. doesn't happen as often now, but that is because i don't use it too often anymore. it actually was problematic for some and i thought it was a pretty widely known issue. there was an article from ign talking about this problem ways back, but i can't remember what it was called. it had to do with a few consoles at launch and some of the bugs that the systems had. i think sony at some point even had to correct such problems, but consumers were responseable for some part of the fixing process probably shipping or something. again i never went through this, but that is what i thought

Yeah I occasionally have my disc say "disc read error" but it's no big deal I just reset the system and it was fine.

yeh i think it all depends on the individual console, my mate went through 3 ps2's before switching to xbox, whereas ive had my ps2 for years and have never had a single problem/error

there are lots of reasons you would get a disc read error e.g. your lens is dirty or the cd isnt clean. disc read error just means that. I had my ps2 from launch and got a disc read error about 3 years later. I took it apart and cleaned the laser with a cotton bud and window polish. I never got the problem again.

I have never gotten a disc read error other than when i tried using a cd-rw in it. I've done some crazyy things to my ps2 an it's never broken down. I got it a few months after launch but i have seen people with the same model have serious probs. I'm just happy that this crap didn't affect mine.

i only had a dre when my 1st system tried to read greatest hits games, but the 2nd or 3rd try would work. i went thru my first ps2, not because it failed, but because i gutted it to see what i could do to the inside. i was finishing putting it together, and the ide-like cabe connecting the controller bay to the mobo tore from the force i put on a weak area.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

yup. with the ps3, im not sure if it will have problems. but with low diode yeilds, bad product can be easily overpassed if testing of diodes is shortlasting.

Yeah they "might" have disc read eror's in the early ps3's but over time they would fix the problem. That is if they do have the "disc read error" in the first place.

well in either case, they are using a kick-ass poymer for bluray coating. plus, there is an even better than the average coating called durabis also in use.

Holy crap you are a AfterDawn Addict. Congradulations.
Yeah and Blu-ray is good and better protected so it may not say "disc read error" after all.

Oh well patient's is the key I guess.... But I dont think it is a month you have to wait for me it was like only 2 week's and I just saw somebody with a better rank but the updating could be completley random. But who care's you are an addict and that's all what matter's.

i talked to nephilim and he said its once a month, so i figured i missed the date by one day.
Quote: well aparently i made my account on april 10, 2005. i posted then, but i never really had more than 10 posts till the fall. fall is when i really got into it and i've been here offten since. i dont even remember why i signed up.. probably for help with video problems i was having finding the site w/ google. but i came back in the fall for some strange theory of mine about halo 3 and for the console debate threads. i came back for these when i found the forums yet again when looking for a place to discus next-gen consoles and i remembered i had an account.
