might as well be, Dela and I founded it like 3-4 years ago. There is an official channel, but it's mostly for the Fins.

Making a live chat system is not as easy as it looks. It's just not simple HTML, but something like the GMail interface. Also, the browser compatibility issue always is a problem

EDIT: Just noticed your post creaky. Loking forward to it.

Its not that hard... can be java based or php, other languages too. compatibility isnt a problem.

We've got a javachat to #ad_buddies chat channel at http://www.adbuddies.org/java/

I remember speaking to dRD and a few other admins about this same question years ago...

Their answer was because this is a video tech site, theres alot of questions that can relate to illegal topics. On a forum its easier to manage it. On a chat, well its a fair bit harder.

Also they didnt want a live chat taking away from the forum. Chat isnt really a good place for indepth tech discussions and help. you cant search for answers already answered before, etc.

#ad_buddies is mostly just a chat hangout. a really good one. you never know...maybe oneday there will be a livechat just for chat here..

Cheers.

anyone want to write a java access client that doesn't use the typical IRC ports? they're blocked here on campus and i don't have a good feasible way around it.

hey Aus...

I asked the stormchat admins about that, they're going to use a different port with one of the servers, so ill be able to get in soon.

Then ill add those alternate addresses to the javachat, and itll scroll through the list untill it gets one you can connect to.

For now, the told me that they also use 7481, which isnt a standard irc port, so try that.

irc.stormchat.org:7481

Ill let you know when ive updated the java client at www.adbuddies.org

Cheers.

nice, will have to try that at work sometime; though i suspect it still won't work for me as they have sygate running on all our pc's so it'd stop mIRC from running anyway.

edit- ah, but i could maybe get on buddies via xchat on my linux box, sygate can't get at that (devilish grin emerges) :)
