Hi everybody. I have had a PS2 problem for a while now, but I figured I would try to understand the problem before taking it out to repair. I have a normal PS2 (not slimline) with a modchip.
I usually leave my PS2 plugged in and on standby, with the red LED light lit at all times. I havn't had the time to play any games, and it was left like that for over a month.
Then when I decide to play a game, I press the reset button to turn it on, then the red light turns green and the blue light below it ignites (like its supposed to), but after two seconds, it goes back into standby, with the red light on. The blue light is also on at the same time the red light is on.
Then when I try to turn it on again, this problem repeats.
What could the problem be? Quick google searches suggested a blown fuse... but I want to get some real info.
As with any piece of electrical equipment, you should never leave it on stand-by. Not only is it a fire hazard, you also run the risk of malfunction.
Your Google search sounds about right. You could always test the internal fuses.
Is there another possible hypothesis for this issue? Because it just spontaneously started working again.

Also, even though it works (for now...), the blue light still remains half-on along with the red light (which is what happened when during my problem). Its not supposed to do that. Its supposed to be one of two combinations. Red light on by itself (standby) or green + blue light on (turned on). The blue light remains half-on (a dim blue) when the red light is on at standby. Is that an issue?

It was summer a while back. Could the problem have been heat?
Well, it stopped working again today. I was about to play a game, and it just shut off spontaneously like before, for no apparent reason. It shuts off (goes into standby) with the red LED on, and the blue LED half-on.
So basically it has a random pattern of working and not working, and it has its LED lights all messed up. Any more ideas?
