I backed it up yesterday using the lastest AnyDVD in the backround and Nero 7 Recode 2 with no trouble at all. AnyDVD was set play from main menu mode. I also had no trouble with Fast & the Furious TokoyoDrive, I used the same process.:P

No problems here. AnyDVD and Shrink did well. Of course AnyDVD was the latest version.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

hmmmmmm I got strange error message on shrink with latest AnyDVD. Wish I had wrote it down. Finally got it with Ripit4me, FixVTS, then shrink although entire process took almost 3 hours. Did it again with saved files, took 15mins with shrink alone. Clonedvd2 didnt show a compression ratio on second screen and died, first one that wouldnt do. had AnyDVD.6.0.6.1 running for all but couldn't get it until tried Ripit4me as last resort. Thanks for the support fella's.

RipIt4me did the trick, I only choose main movie + menus. All the other crap is where time and errors occur. It is a free-bee that uses decrypter, shrink and fixVTS.....all freeeeeeeeee

@locoeng

Do you have an old copy of DVDFab Decrypter???
The new one (3.1) only does dvd9's.
I would rather use the old one I believe. Thanks in advance if you do.

Talking DVD FAB Decrypter V3.0.1.2, the latest free edition.
In it only the top 2 choices on the left are available "to free users" and only in DVD9 mode (try pull down) So the only use I see is decrypting a dvd in DVD9 mode to remove protection then shrinking it, unless you want just the main movie only on a DVD9 disc??. Highly Unlikely.
But I guess thats how the old one worked anyway (except for the main movie addition? of course) so in retrospect it doesnt much matter. I just wanted the old 2.9.8.3 version for comparison purposes and I went and deleted it, not expecting such a radical change. DVD Fab Platinum 3.latest also underwent a radical change and is much more user friendly. Will definately be giving that a go in the future.

You rip the disc, either in main movie mode or full disc and then you run the VDEIO_TS folder through DVD Shrink compressing the video files enought to fit onto one SL disc. It has always been this way with DVDFab Decrypter, there just wasn't a drop down menu that would apperantly give you and option. DVDFab Platinum/Express may allow you to decrypt and encode on the fly, but they are different programs than DVDFab Decrypter. My guess is Fengtao has seen such success with his freeware version of his products that he has made the GUI in such a way that users will be more inclined to purchase the pay versions rather than rip with plain ole DVDFab Decrypter and then use another freeware programs such as DVD Shrink or a widely available Nero Recode.

The new DVDFAB Decrypter should be able to rip THE PROPOSITION flawlessly, it's just got more functions to it that's all.

@alkohol

The option you have chosen to illustrate is the last option I will use. Its identical to the free version, except you can use DVD5.The customize version allows one to remove "crap" not part of the movie and the sound that goes with it, raising the copy ratio. It's also much simpler to use, for those who either don't want to or dont know how to transcode, encode, recode, and all the other stuff you mentioned, but simply want a good clean working backup with minimal time and effort spent. I think that speaks for most people. The only use I see for it is a 1:1 copy. Did that yesterday, worked real nice. Did customize option also, worked real nice, w/o shrink or anything else. Very much akin to clonedvd2. BTW, the button to remove DTS is nice for those without that capability. Adds to copy ratio if you remove it.

You're right, its just a jazzed up version of what they had all along. Except the platinum version is very similar to cloneDVD2, without the need for an add on like AnyDVD. I wonder how they will handle upgrades. Most likely will have to upgrade entire program instead of add on. That will probably be bottom line whether its worth spending the money for when CloneDVD et al does basically same thing.

Spend your money if you want, but it's really not necessary with all the freebies that are available to backup just about any movie.
