With an upcoming upscaling update, the 360 will reach a resolution of 1080p. This was announced at TGS.

This is good news for others, but I doubt mine will work anyway. I only have a tv that supports 420P 720p and 1080i

I wouldn't worry, there just compaaring numbers as usual, it, IMHO, doesn't affect quality. (Unless it's a 100" HDTV).

I thought you could only get 1080p with a HDMI type connection. The Xbox 360 doesn't have that. I also saw screenshots of the new HD-DVD attachment, which also doesn't appear to have any HDMI connections. Now unless that picture was wrong, can you get 1080p resolution through component video or some other means?

You're right, but that's for native 1080p. I THINK it can upscale through other connections.

From x-s:

Quote:
Microsoft announced that its fall software update, scheduled for release later this year, will allow all Xbox 360 consoles around the world to output game and movie content in 1080p resolution.

Shane Kim clarified that, while the software patch would upscale all content to resolutions as high as 1080p, Microsoft themselves had no plans to produce gaming content taking advantage of this ability. He was similarly convinced that very few other developers would see the value in producing 1080p games, with the singular exception of Sony's first-party studios, eager to validate the value of the capability.

I'd like to see Sony's 1080p games. Does anyone think they'll look better than 720p? Won't there be a lot of tearing etc. to make up the resource power?

I always though regular componant cables could produce 1080p.

Quote:
Component video is capable of producing signals such as 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, but, according to some, digital connections such as DVI (video only) and HDMI (which can also include up to 8 channels of audio) generally give better results at the higher resolutions (up to 1080p). HDMI also includes both a video and audio signal in a single cable.
The only reason I remember is because the $500 ps3 won't have any hdmi and people were wondering how they would watch bluray 1080p movies etc.

I think they would look better because that's a huge jump in resolution!
*720p is 720x1280 at 60fps
*1080p is 1080 x1920 at 60fps
*1080i is 1080x1920 at 30 fps

But guess what? There are hardly any tv's capable of 1080p and the ones that do support it are very expensive and are in only huge sizes at the moment. There shouldn't be any tearing because they will be made to withstand that resolution.

pc games with gamepad support by tycobb.
