Hi Canucker6
Could be a few things:
Media you are using - what brand are your using?
How much compression did you use?
Burn speed?
How about the drive - make & model - firmware up to date?

Ok using Nero to burn w/ Shrink?
If you are check here for the firmware and model of the lg:
In start smart>Nero ToolKit>Info Tool. The make and model will be listed in the drop down.
In the drive tab there is a field there for the firmware version of the drive selected.

The firmware help the drive with the read/write strategies of media esp newer media Best to keep it up to date.

Burn speed?

Does the distortion happen in the pc or a player?

Hmmm... let's see, distortion, freezing, skipping, etc. is mainly caused by poor media (cheap unknown brands). Try to lower your burning speed and get some genuine Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media to see if it resolve the issue.
